Good numbers on those rows, mate. Do you use a standard weight bench to support yourself?

Cheers bud. Yeah standard incline bench. Vid here if you want to see.

Shrugs with sciatica make me shiver.
I'm no expert but I can see a lot of downside with little gain. The risk/reward of that movement would be too much for me.

dirtyvest
Some high pull work, seated DB cleans etc are good for traps, if you're getting decent rows in they should be hitting them too. Probably would agree that trap focused work wouldn't be high on my priority list.

And be careful with how much you are increasing loads but then sacrificing over all volume when you are already on a fairly low volume... over 100kg LESS lifted on your pull downs this week compared to last

Cheers fellas. You are right I'm probably being a d1ck risking the back. I'll have a think how I can do some high pull work that supports the chest. Any suggestions welcome.

DV don't use that word 'less'. I did an extra pullup though and my fat arse is worth about 106kg lol.

JayBoy
Pullups looking decent as always. I find pulldowns can pinch my back if back is not on point. Would dead hangs help stretch out back/sciatica?

As always? Pullups I always struggle with! But thankyou. It does help yeah and is part of my warmup routine for back. That said the relief is only when I'm actually hanging lol.

Nice graft in here bud, how is the cut progressing?

RAD#1
Is the cut going well?

I am expecting photos that would make Clarence Bass look fat (what do you mean who the fcuk is he LOL)

Cheers fellas its going well. Weigh in a few days from now. Definitely moving in the right direction. My 'gardening pants' were definitely looser this week!

Just googled Clarence Bass. You don't expect much do you lol. I've only lost 2.5kg so far! Aim is to see some abbage next year.

My mom had to go to hospital at the weekend as her sciatica was that bad, she's had it for years but the last few months has been constant pain. Dr said the pain and numbness she was getting wasn't normal so sent her to the hospital and she ended up staying overnight in order to get an MRI scan the next day. Was a bit worrying at the time because they were basically making sure that it wasn't anything else, luckily it was confirmed to be only sciatica, albeit very bad sciatica.

There wasn't much else they offered her other than keep dosing up on paracetamol. Its very debilitating for her at times although she is 65 lol. However she looks much younger than her years. But I do feel for you man, must be a pita at times.

Yes it is a real pain in the arse ('scuse the pun!)

I am fortunate in that if managed correctly it doesn't bother me too much in day to day life. It's when I start loading it I get issues, and they seem to get worse over time. I was training without legs several years ago and was pain free for almost a year. Then I brought back the squats etc. and right back to square one.

Hoping this break from leg training will bring back the pain free days. Then I will gradually add in light stuff and keep it high rep low weight from now.

Might need you lot to keep me on the straight and narrow ie. tell me when I'm being a d1ck doing shrugs! lol!

Second full yard day in a row today. Felt knackered before going in. Also today I learned why people don’t wear shorts when cutting razor sharp grass with a line trimmer.

RDO 3: Wed 05/12/18 1450-1545hrs
Cut Day #24

Bench Press 3x5: 20kg x5, 40kg x5, 60kg x3, 80kg x2, 100kg x1, 115kg x1, 122.5kg x4, 120kg x5, x5 (-2.5kg)
Smith CG Floor Press 3x10: 40kg x5, 65kg x10, x10, x8 (+5kg)
Pec Dec 2x10: (L6 S3) 85kg x10, x8 (0)
Pressdowns 2x10: (straight bar) 90lbs x10, x7 (-1)
SLRs 2x15: 15kg x15, x11 (-3)
XxxxSeated Calf Raises 3x10: 55kg x10, x10, x9 (+1)

Bench started off okay. Tried out my new wrist wraps on the work sets. First set of the 122 I only managed four. I decided to back off the weight and also loosen the wraps a touch. Second set I managed five so much better. Forearm pain was still there unfortunately. Might switch to CGBP as of next week as I never seem to get this pain doing them, and it just seems to be getting worse. I’ll add more sets too and ditch the floor press.

Floor press used a shoulder width grip and added 5kg. Pushing hard from go saw me fall just short of full sets. Pec dec fought hard to just break even. Pressdowns lost one rep. Really gassing now and aware I’m running out of time for an appointment. SLRs done in quick succession resulting in a -3 rep loss.

Who has time for calves these days.

TTT - 55 mins

Hard to say if losses are from the long day or a result of the cut, or both (probably.) Still holding on okay though I think? Opinions?

Cheers!

Razor sharp grass? Is this is your garden? I like my wrist wraps quite tight for bench as feel better supported but looser for pressing.

It was the elderly neighbours mate. He took a turn for the worst a few months back and has been unable to do it, so I offered. Should have just torched the lot mate it was all waist high like a field of samurai swords!

They were starting to get there. Too tight for me. Just enough to stop the wrist moving freely but not enough to get the tingles lol.

Cheers bud. I've bought some Harbinger ones. They seem pretty heavy duty but with some elasticity too.

It's the brachiordialis but up more to the elbow. I think it is tendonitis of some sort. My plan is to narrow my grip to take the pressure of the inner forearm.

A day late for this session as yesterday was spent visiting various schools for the boys. I've decided I need to increase volume a little and put a little more emphasis on compound movements. I have limited time on my lunch breaks and need to make the most of it, so some slight rejigging was in order. Feeling pretty switched on this morning and ready to get in the thick of it.

Dayshift: Sat 08/12/18 1030-1120hrs
Cut Day #27

Pullups: #12 x5, #6 x5, BW x9, x6, x5, x4, x4, x4 = 32 (0)
Reverse Rows 5x5: (feet on bench) BW x5, +17kg x5 +28kg x5, x5, x5, x5, x5, +10kg x8, x8 (+10)
Standing Cable Low Rows: 3x10 #4 x10, #7 x10, #8 x10, x10 ()
Concentration Curls 3x10: 17.5kg x10, x9, x9 (-2.5kg)

Pull-ups not looking too promising losing a rep on set 4, however managed to tack it back on at the end. No new reps probably the result of a conscious effort to reduce rest between sets today. Rows is my bread and butter on back day so I’ve added two more work sets. I’ve also done away with the reverse flyes and adopted a low cable row, which will do more back as well as rear delts. This was followed by curls in which I dropped weight and added a third set. Back feeling suitably smashed after. Made good time too.

TTT - 50 mins.

Weighed in this morning at 107.45kg (-0.55kg) with a 107.5cm (-1.5cm) waist. Another small drop for weight although the waist is a pleasant surprise. Total is 3.2kg loss in just under 4 weeks so lagging behind my kilo per week target. Going to drop another 400 cals (-12%) and see where that takes me.

Cheers!

Cheers bud. I was cutting on much less cals last year and achieving 1kg or more so I don't think there is enough there if I'm being honest.

Probably still alright for you oldies.

Nice work as always.

Saw you did deadlift and squats on stronglifts a few years ago?

What makes you not do them movements anymore, is it the sciatica?

Im just interested as I feel that for myself personally they are such a key to my training. And when I see people not doing them I just wonder how they get around it. I suppose you have a ton of volume in all your other movements.

Cheers bud. Exactly that. I tried loads of variations to get them to work for me pain free. It got to a point where I had to really consider is it worth having pain 24/7 just to do some lifts that really is supposed to be for my health anyway?

I fully intend to get back to some form of squatting one day, albeit sub 100kg. High rep stuff is what I'll be doing. Deads are completely out for good. I'm avoiding any sort of leg work and have been for about 3 months now. The sciatica is still healing. Once it gets to the stage where I am pain free week in week out I will slowly start applying it again.

Exactly, no point hindering your health when you are training for health. High rep squats sound good, 100kg for reps makes me feel very strange!

My list of injuries from running is endless until I realised I didn't need to be doing it every day of the week! If I could go back a few years and tell the young version of myself that, I would!

So after some consideration I've decided I need more volume in my life.

I've stolen a rough template from Dav's journal that he used in his bbing days and adapted it for my needs. Only trouble is I will have to work quickly through it and make rest periods very short to keep them within the lunch breaks.

Here's what it looks like:

A1: Dayshift
Pressdowns 5x10
Lying DB Ext 5x10
One Arm Cable Raises 5x10
Single Arm Cable Reverse Flyes 5x10
Cable Curls 5x10
Concentration Curls 5x10
Standing Calf Raises 5x10

B1: Nightshift
Pullups 5 sets
Reverse Rows 4x8
Standing Low Cable Rows 4x10
CGBP 1x heavy, 3x8
DB Bench Press 4x10
Standing Cable Flyes 4x10

A2: RDO 1
Pressdowns 5x10
Lying DB ext 5x10
SLRs 5x10
Reverse Flyes 5x10
Cable Curls 5x10
Concentration Curls 5x10
Seat Calf Raises 5x10

B2: RDO 3
Pullups 5 sets
BB Incline Lying Row 1x heavy, 4x8
Standing Low Cable Rows 4x10
CGBP 1x heavy, 3x8
Incline BP 4x8
Pec Dec 4x10

So with the new routine in mind and having just trained back yesterday, I decided to do a chest only session today. This will tie in nicely with the rest of the week meaning back is neglected for only one day, and I'll have my first guns only day in years on Tuesday.

Nightshift: Sun 09/12/18 2225-2305hrs
Cut Day #28

CGBP 3x8: 20kg x5, 40kg x5, 60kg x3, 80kg x2, 100kg x1, 110kg x4, 100kg x6, 95kg x5, 90kg x6 ()
DB Bench Press 4x10: 35kg x10, x10, x10, x9 ()
Standing Cable Flyes 4x10: (L4) #6 x10, x10, x10, x10 ()

CGBP went ok in that there was no forearm pain. The plan was to do one heavy set and then 3x8 work sets. Unfortunately I did miscalculate the required drop in weight to achieve those full sets so kept dropping throughout. Next round lighter sets will start at 90kg.

More focused now I dropped 5kg on the DB bench which performed much better with the extra set. Also dropped two plates on the cable flyes, just konking out in last reps. Much better.

TTT - 40 mins.

40 mins spent today despite trying to keep a quicker pace. When I include the three back exes I will have to make better time.

Cheers!
