Burgen= Super Bread?

Burgen has 6.4g protein and 11.9g of carbs per slice! That is a sick amount of protein for a slice of bread, quite alot of fibre in there as well!

    Is that not too much fat or is that your only fat source?

    Well it obviously depends on your whole diet. A whole loaf might yield 15 slices which is not much more than 150g of CHO. For most people following a bulking diet they'll be consuming much more carbs than this.

    Back to the original point though, yeah I really like this bread and it has a great macro breakdown. Far superior to most other breads IMO. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any negative comments on this bread?

    It always amazes me that burgen is so low g.i., 23, I think

    Its obviously the fats/fibre in the linseeds and the protein in the soya that does this but is there any other factors in the preparation that would lower the g.i.?

    GI is related to carbs on their own, when you combine a carb source with a fat source or even a proteinsource its GI is lowered as a result, so unless you eat nothing but plain rice with no sauce or fat or protein the GI will always be different

    its also good if you have IBS or other digetive realted probs........

    love the stuff, it'a a bit pricey among other bread, but when you look at the nutrional content it far outweighs the others

    I don't eat bread (long story), but if I did eat bread, it would be Bürgen (or Vogel's, which is very similar). High in protein, essential fatty acids, soluble fibre and slow-release carbs. What more could a person want?

    I love it, very good source of lots of things.

    One note though - you have to make sure you really CHEW big time. The flax seeds aren't cracked, so unless you're really chomping away they'll go straight through - easy way to tell is to take the #2 test...
