I'm not a big fan of using steroids while cutting. Yes they are beneficial but it's the level of benefit that the user must weight against the risks involved (and obviously cost). The simple fact is that there is a majority percentage who absolutely do not require the use of anabolics while cutting. If they are losing much muscle whilst doing so, then they're doing it all wrong. Anabolics in general will assist fat loss. However, this is marginal, at best. By far the main reason to use an anabolic is to preserve muscle mass. This preservation only really becomes an issue when fat loss efforts are ramped up, toward the end of a cut when fat loss is difficult to come by; or when being considered by a user that is heavily muscled, perhaps above, or close to genetic limit, in which case even mild catabolic processes will risk moderate to severe muscle loss.
That said, any anabolic can be used during a cut. The only reason why certain drugs get pigeon holed into mass or cut steroids is their effects on "bulk". It would be unwise to use a strong "bulk" steroid such as dianabol as the user will likely hold considerable water making cardio efforts difficult, or even impossible. Lack of cardio during a cut would not be ideal. So it tends to be milder, non-aromatisables that are employed during cutting phases.
