Can I stay on a cut for as long as necessary?

Apologies if this is the wrong section, although I couldn't see a 'cutting' specific section of the forum.

I'm about to start a cut and trying to get from around 15% bodyfat down to 10% or so.  I've no idea how long this will take, but is there any specific timeline I should be working with?  Is there any danger to prolonging a cut?  I'd like to cut for as long as it takes for me to see the results, but I fear that staying in a calorie deficit for too long may cause issues (muscle loss being one of them of course).  Provided I manage my nutrition and stay on top of measurements, weight, etc, will there be any problem with staying on a cut UNTIL I'm happy with the way I look, or should I only cut for a specific amount of time?

I only ask as I've seen a lot of people saying that they only cut for 8-10 weeks at a time, and I just wondered why that is.  I just don't really want to start my cut, and end up 8-10 weeks down the line still not happy with my bodyfat level, and HAVE to end the cut due to being on it for so long.

Thank you.

Keep going until you're happy mate, but be aware you probably won't build any muscle whilst you are cutting (unless you are new to lifting.)

Aim for 0.7% bodyweight per week and you will limit the damage.

And don't be afraid of the odd cheat day. It helps with your hormones and energy levels.

Thanks mate, I appreciate it.  Not new to lifting, although quite new to cutting "properly".  I say properly as I've cut in the past, but never as strictly as I'm planning to this time around.
