Can i refreeze COOKED meat?

Frozen cooked chicken is thawed, eaten.
I then decide to put the rest which has thawed back in the freezer, then i defrost it tommorow and nuke itin the microwave before hand.

Can i eat it? Cooking destroys bacteria, so i dont understand why we cant eat defrosted food.
Sainsburys(Gf works there) throw away tonnes of meat as its been left out the freezers, was thinking of taking it rather than the bin having it.

You should be fine mate as long as it`s not been left out in the current heat and you heat it through thoroughly.

Should be fine. I would, just make sure it is reheated thoroughly.
The freeze/thaw/freeze/cook cycle may compromise taste and texture though - but just get it down you

So we're in agreement that aslong as we nuke food, it doesnt matter how long its been defrosted/frozen for?

Not saying im planning to do it, i try plan ahead to avoid this.
However sainsburys are throwing out chicken like its out of fashion all because "it got warm on isle 2" or some crap So ill be there to grab it then

I`ve just re-read that mate and I wouldn`t if I understand it right, ie it`s been cooked, then frozen, thawed and then re-frozen, you are now looking at thawing it again and eating it ?

If I`ve got that right mate I wouldn`t chance it.

Yeah thats correct, iceland cook it then freeze it.

    I defrost it, Eat some.
    Freeze the rest.
    Defrost again (Now defrosted twice)
Heat it up super hot and eat it.

Id expect the heat to kill all the bacteria? but wondered if theres other problems with it that ive not considered before i ever decide to chance food posioning

This is pure theory by the way, just so i know if i can next time

As long as you don't leave it at room temp for too long (which allows bacteria to grow & excrete toxins into your food), you'll be O.K.

Nigee - if i microwave it till its super super super hot will the toxins remain or become harmless? Same for the bacteria?

Cooking kills bacteria but doesn't destroy toxins, so once a food has gone "off", it has to be chucked.

Ah k, are these toxins the cause of food poisoning or is it the bacteria?

As far as HEALTH & SAFETY goes, then absolutely NO is the answer. A restuarant would not be allowed to do this.

However at home you can do what you want, generally you will be fine but remember the correct protocol is NOT TO REFREEZE

Cliff - Lol yeah healthy and safety would go mad
I guess if i defrost stuff in the fridge its even better, although about 1000x slower than in the warm kitchen(summer and all).

Ah ran a search found this, http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/poison.html
Toxins will make you ill, so thats the problem (also some bacteria can survive the heat).

    Thanks everyone, apreciate your input!

    ORIGINAL: richsINS

I defrost it, Eat some. - Bacteria multiply here
Freeze the rest.- Bacteria dont grow, but remain alive
Defrost again (Now defrosted twice) - Bacteria multiply here
Heat it up super hot and eat it. - You may or may not kill the bacteria and/or remove the toxin

Remember under optimum condictions bacteria replicate once every 20mins

I wouldnt risk it myself mate.

The pain may come over you, but don't let it overcome you.
