Can you not use a HD PC monitor as a telly?

As above- seems to me that HD monitors are much cheaper than HD TV's are, can I not use a monitor and plug my PC, xbox and digi-box into it and use that?

Yeah you can. Not sure about digibox but just get a TV tuner card for your laptop/PC.

They are cheaper as there is a TV tax or something like that and as they don't have a TV tuner they don't have it added.

Check the ports though to see what you can physically plugin.

    TV tuners at amazon.co.uk

Fantastic- might pop up to Tesco and treat myself with my redundancy money then!  I presume the monitor will have basic HD ports (dunno what they're called, HD is all new to me!) which xbox can go straight into?  In which case, I can get a basic switch adapter to plug the xbox/digi-box into and switch between them?  Basically the same as a scart-lead switcher-box-thingy?

Monitors have been "HD" for at least a decade.

Cheap ones only have VGA or DVI inputs, you have to pay more for one with a HDMI port that the xbox/ps3 can use. Some even have SCART and component. Assume the digibox has coaxial or SCART out?

I thought they did but seems they might all be TVs and not monitors!  There is a Tesco Home just opened near me which I think has them, but its closed for today.  Is it cheaper to buy them online?

Can you get converters to connect the MDMI leads of an xbox into the VGA of a monitor?

    I currently use this monitor:

But I plan to get a new, much bigger one anyway so just asking out of interest really?

The digiboxes (I use two seperate ones), the freeview one has normal scart/coax output, plus a little black one that looks like an RCA output, but isn't!?

The other digibox has s-video, S/PDIF, RS232-C (same as PC monitor type connector?) as well as the normal, yellow video output.  I have no idea what any of those do by the way.  Technology noob here.

Not sure about converting HDMI to VGA.

To get scart/coax you'll probably have to pay quite a bit over the odds, usually it's just vga/dvi/hdmi.

S-video is **** and not suitable for much, S/PDIF is audio and would go into speakers IIRC, RS232-C...just looked it up and it's not a VGA port...can you scrap the digiboxes and get a TV tuner card for the pc? It'd make it a lot easier lol.
