Canker Sores/Mouth Ulcers?

In the last two days a painful white sore has appeared on the outside/bottom of my gum, in the left of my mouth, just where the gum meets the cheek. It looks almost like a cut that has become infected, but I can't understand where it came from because I didn't cut my gum.

I did some searching on google and it would appear that it is most likely a 'canker sore' (but this could just be an American-ism for something else?) I think it is, basically, more commonly known here just as a mouth ulcer?

It is also worth noting that I have an exam tomorrow, and that the last time I had exams, around October time, I got the exact same kind of sore in my mouth. So could this be something to do with stress?

Has anybody ever had one of these? Did you find it was stress induced? Also is there anything you can recommend to get rid of it?

Thought everybody would have experienced it at one stage or another.

Fcuk knows how you acquire them, (probably from kissing filthy dublin skangers in your case) but avoid salt.

Just put some Bonjella on it. Like the Beyonce song.

avoid salt.

Interesting, was just on to my ex-gf and she told me to gargle with hot water and salt! So either she is wrong, or she wants to inflict some pain on me (both are quite feasible)

I've been doing that but it hasn't really helped.

gargle warm salty water, it will help, take pain killers! There is no cure! Herpes virus simplix or similar. I get them occasionally! They can be so sore and can last a week or more.

bongela i am convinced doesnt help. All it does is sting it so bad that when the stinging dies down and the pain is back to normal then you are relieved and think its better. I prefer medigel myself but the best thing is pain killers, salty water and tine!

Sweet thanks. I am actually using Medijel, presume it's just the generic version of Bonjela? But you're right it doesn't really help, and it seems to just make the back of my throat sore when I use it, weird...

This is so true.
I am prone to them and seemd to get them more when stressed.
Haven't found anything that helps better than warm drinks.
They are not caused by herpes virus as far as I know.

I don't get them regularly so open to correction, salt hurts me like hell if I ever got them tho.
Bonjela always helped me. (ingore cappa, he has shares in medigel)

used to get the a lot for some reason.

bonjela is not that good, the best stuff I ever used is 'anbesol' be careful with your pronunciation if your going to ask the chemist for it as there is a farmer giles cream called anusol and believe me you dont wanna mix those badboys up

anbesol numbs it so takes away the searing pain! it also seems to make them heal much quicker.

try orabase. this tends to cover the ulcer and protects it as it heals.
but any ulcer that doesnt get better whithin two weeks get it checked by the dentist.

also recurrent ulcerations maybe caused by sodium laureth sulphate(SLS) in most toothpastes. sls makes the toothpaste foam!

try Corlan Pellets - they have worked very well for me, you can get them from pharmacies/tesco pharmacies
it is basically a pellet shaped as a small tablet which you place on the ulcer 3 times a day, gets rid of mine in a day or two

CK, ME, Varg, and Klein have all agreed Bonjela is rubbish! Let it go!

Your wrong Dan! Again!

That email is hilarious. Especially the bit about them being curable? If I am not mistake are they not one of those "for life" kinda things? You might aswell be rubbing bonjela on them

Thanks for the replies.

Had this for about 3 days now and it is excruciating, it's gotten so big! I searched google for images of mouth ulcers and mine is bigger than any I've seen. And it's in a place that makes it really awkward to eat. Little bastard of a thing it is

That's a dose mate.
I'm sure there are plasters you can get, for us inside the mouth, which may at least make eating a little easier.

Maybe bump up your vitamins for a bit, extra fruit etc.
