Does anybody play it?  Is it considered a nerd's game?

I just started playing again recently.  I used to be in the Chess Club at school, how cool was I !!!

I used to love chess!  Many years ago when I fancied a 'smoke' I used to go around my mate's house (gathering place) and play all the stoneheads... - its a game you can get very emersed in.

One thing i've always liked about chess is that it's completely and utterly fair for both players, - and luck really doesn't come into it.

At the time I borrowed a couple of chess books out the library on tactics and strategy... - it's amazing how much difference to your game a little research can make...

I also used to play my a computer on occasion.. - used to always lose to it, - but by contrast, playing a human in comparison was childs play

Last bit of babble to my post: Beating people chess is pretty satisfying :)

I've actually got the most amazing alabaster chess set that my mates bought for me from an antique shop about 15 years ago. I've managed to move house about 6 times and not lose a single piece.

I'm still pony at chess though.

I'm not very good, I've been practising against the computer (on easy level hehe).  Involves a lot of thought and strategic thinking, I like things like this!

I was in the school chess club and like you have recently started playing against a computer (easy level, but I did progress a couple of levels after a few weeks).

    Great game, I love it.

I need to read some books though as I only know one opening that I was taught at school... the classic knights and pawns out.

I used to, since primary we all used to play. I think it's a myth about it being an intelligent persons game as the special needs guy in our class was almost unbeatable at it!
I went up to the chess club one day, totally rusty and took on our classes version of Martin Prince outa the Simpsons, and anihilated him very quickly. His smarmy air disapeared in front of me.

    The ultimate board game.
I love the episode of Frasier where he can't beat his dad at chess

www.instantchess.com is a good site.  you get 25 free games then you have to buy a subscription unless you're naughty and use ccleaner to erase your internet history!

I used to play w/ my family years ago, i only knew how to get one check mate by trapping their king at the edge of the board using a queen and rook, if that failed i lost.
