Cholesterol manage Supplement

What supplement do you take to manage cholesterol?

Reading previous threads showed that 'red yeast rice' was possibly bad for liver.
An alternative was 'Policosanol' which on quick google pointed out this study saying it may not actually reduce LDL..

Any other alternatives?

    POM statins

Is there a recommended amount of active ingredient to use for a cycle?

On search, Ive seen there are OTC versions with 10 mg imvastatin. Are these strong enough or not?

To be so confident about tthem, im assuming you take these yourself? Are you taking these for the rest of your life? Have you noticed any side effects?

Well both really. For a cycle initially, but looking at issues, considering for in general use also. Im taking fish oils so that will go some way to helping in general.

    Any other alternatives?

no mate, im only 24, hopefully wont need statins for a few years yet! My dad used em after he had a TIA last yr, his cholesterol dropped from 7.5 to 3.5 in 8weeks or so. Apparently the most you can lower your cholesterol by diet alone is 25% or so the doc said

Do you have family history of high cholestrol? Have been tested and shown to have issues?

If not then a good diet that is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, fibre, unrefeined carbs and fats and avoids trans fats should be do the trick.

This has got me thinking about my dads cholesterol. Hes 49 and three years ago his cholesterol was 8.7!

Hes not overweight but his diet is crisps, chocolate, beer and a whole host of other ****e. He made no changes after that test despite my best efforts. He thinks because no-one in his family has ever had heart issues he can do it

Surely he should have been put on these statins straight away if diet only reduces it by 25%?

My diet is clean so that should be enough then for the long term.

Also, as said in my second post, i am looking for something specifically for on cycle, preferably which people have researched and use themselves.
Statins are required to be taken for life so will rule them out.
