Clarification on breakfast before morning workout

Ok, so I train Monday- Saturday- 2 x upper 2 lower splits and wednesday/saturday running hill sprints.

When i'm in the gym around 7:40Am, I feel tired even after a coffee.

I'm planning on getting up at 6:30, making a protein pancake type breakfast with black coffee

Would this make much difference to my overall goal to loose weight? I'm aware of the whole principle off calories in/calories out.

But with this empty stomach training being all the rage, just wanted some advice.

ta,

I train at 5am most mornings and always fasted.

If you are looking to cut and training first thing, i would alway train fasted and do fasted cardio.

IME this works better. Training early is tough and my strength is never great but you push through.

Oh and consume BCAA's during training and until you eat.

I dont eat until 12pm so consume aminos until then.

How much sleep are you getting?

Getting up earlier may just leave you feeling in a worst state.

Are your times dictated by work or what you need to do next? - Training fasted for steady state cardio does have benefits but I wouldnt do weights fasted as some food inside you would be fuel. Then get a pre-workout inside you which might more so than the coffee.

Loosing weight will be dictated by the rest of your diet, timing of food etc is fairly subjective.

When I trained that early I used to ensure I ate well the night before

Am I right in thinking you get up at 6:30 then start training in the gym at 7:40 or do you start in the gym, earlier than that.

How much sleep are you getting?

I normally train at least 1 morning every week so I get to the gym for 6am, I find it best to just get as much as sleep as possible, so my alarm goes off at 5:30, I leave the house by 5:45 having had 1 coffee and my pre-workout supplements!

You may find having that little extra time in bed (when you would normally be making breakfast) is all you need and then just have a coffee to get you awake!

I do exactly what westy19 says above.....

Alarm at 5.30am (actually starts at 5.20 and I snooze twice), caffeine tab and water at the side of the bed so I can get that straight in me.  I find it more effective than a coffee.... obviously it's stronger.  I have a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil but other than that I'm training fasted.  In the gym for 5.55am and straight into the weights.

It took some getting used to but I'm just coming up to my 1 year anniversary of 6am training (I know that because I've been in this job 1 year and that's when I started) and my lifts are now passing previous PBs from evening training years ago.  Certain things are hard at that time.  Legs never seemed to get trained properly and I'm considering doing 1 evening session per week to hit my legs a bit harder.  Squatting when you've only been out of bed 30 minutes is never good!

I have to add, my diet is now spot on for the first time in years which is obviously helping with progress.  Would I be even bigger and stronger if I trained in the evenings with this same diet.....who knows.

Try a few things out and see what works best for you.  I never liked training fasted but others do.  I have 25g uf whey/30g peanut butter 2 hours before training and a pre workout 30 mins before training.

I've recommended this before, but try a bulletproof coffee. Have enough coffee so you're getting around 200mg of caffeine, have that with some coconut oil (around 10g) and around 15g of BCAA. The coconut oil will fuel you and is ideal because it doesn't go through many pathways at all. The coffee will (obviously) give you a great kick and will help mobilize those fatty acids and the BCAA's will do a great job of protecting tissue.

I've never seen BCAA's added to that mate? Bet it tastes grim haha.

The's more or less my pre-WO but using a 200mg caffeine tab and eating the coconut oil off the spoon.  Keeping meaning to try BCAA's.

I've never in my life added BCAA's to coffee & coconut oil either. Don't do that.

I wouldnt ruin any coffee with cocunut oil!

Tbh i would just rather have a pint of milk and some fruit as long as I had 20-30mins before eating and training.
