Clarkson's in trouble again

http://www.guardian.co....offensive-comments-brown

**** = c word.

The Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson is at the centre of a new controversy after again making offensive comments about the prime minister in front of the BBC2 show's studio audience. Clarkson, who previously had to apologise to Gordon Brown in February after calling him "a one-eyed Scottish idiot", described him as a "****" in not-for-broadcast comments during the recording of this week's Top Gear programme on Wednesday night.
The BBC2 controller, Janice Hadlow, was present at the recording and is said to have confronted Clarkson about the remark. A BBC spokeswoman confirmed the pair had a "conversation", but said the issue was now over.
"There was a discussion about the programme," she said. "It is certainly not an ongoing issue."
It is understood that Hadlow did not ask Clarkson to apologise for the incident.
In a further statement, the BBC said: "Janice went to watch a recording of Top Gear as it is BBC2's top-rated programme, and as controller of BBC2, she holds both the programme and Jeremy in high regard. After the recording, she and Jeremy had a discussion about the programme as controllers and presenters often do."
At the filming of the previous week's programme, on 15 July, Clarkson also used the same word to describe Brown as part of a joke, one person present told the Guardian. This remark was not included in the transmitted version of the show on Sunday 19 July.
"Clarkson was talking about a government policy and said as his payoff line: 'The reason you can't do that is because Gordon Brown is a ****,' " the eyewitness said. "Everyone found it very funny."

Name calling is all very well, but it's still a bit out of order to take the piss out of someone's disability

Clarkson is a stupid, arrogant, fat, ugly old man (facts), but if he lost his eye in a rugby accident (not that he's the type to play sports), I wouldn't mock him for it (that would be out of order)

Agreed, it's on a par with celebrity gossip really

I think Clarkson probably does it to promote his image

    yep.

Now neither me, nor  probably anyone else is going to ask you to apologise to Clarkson for saying that - so why should Gordon Brown be different?

Cnut! is that it... fair enough with the scottish one eyed thing in this day and age of political correctness... but since when is having an opinion on someone become wrong? clarkson thinks he's a Cnut, and he's entitled to that opinion...

The difference is not in who the public figure is mate, it's in that fact that Clarkson took the piss out of a disability

That's what he apologised for, after pressure from disability groups. No apology was made for calling Brown an idiot, and in this most recent media relations stunt, nobody asked for an apology for calling him a cnut

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1...ntertainment/7873624.stm

He said: "In the heat of the moment I made a remark about the Prime Minister's personal appearance for which, upon reflection, I apologise."

Clarkson later clarified his apology, telling The Sun that he "very specifically apologised for making fun of his personal appearance - very specifically. I haven't apologised for calling him an idiot."

He uses the term personal appearance, but we all know that's mealy mouthed, nobody would have cared if he called Brown fat

    Fair enough.

Though I suspect if I were actually disabled (eg blind, wheelchair bound etc) Id probably be a little offended by suggestions that GB was in the same boat as me!

Come to think of it Ive basically got no vision in my right eye, but i wouldnt count myself 'disabled' as a result (or get especially offended if someone described me as a 'one eyed idiot' as opposed to just 'an idiot', lol!)

The misery that Gordon Brown has inflicted on everyone in this country make him fair game IMO. Also why the big uroar when Clarkston says this? The BBC allows Johnathon Ross to say sh*t like this every week, surely not because because it was against the leader of the Labour party.

I agree mate, but nobody said Brown was offended himself. He's never described himself as disabled (despite only having partial vision in his other eye). As far as I know, Brown never even bothered commenting on what Clarkson said

The main objection came from disability groups, charities for the blind, and from Scottish MPs (about the Scottish comment). It's just not the "done thing" in our society to take the piss out of disabilities. Hence the reaction from disability groups, hence the apology

Now of course a lot of people got on Clarkson's side because of the "PC Brigade" being offended. But in this case I'm glad he apologised. I've always found the fawning over Clarkson a little sickening, and I'm glad he got taken down a peg or two. The guy thinks he's clever, and I can't stand that kind of arrogance in someone who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag, physically, mentally, or verbally

Hmm, possibly.  It's a close race between him and Tony Benn though.
