Commet's Return Policy is a joke!

I bought 4 TVs for around the house, spent over £1600 in Commet. The TV for my room has a red pixel on the left hand side. its pretty near the centre, about 1/3 of the way in from the left and right in the centre vertically.
because its not 'in the viewing area' its not considered faulty, so i cant have a refund or a new one. they can send an engineer out but that will be an extra charge.
to rub salt in the wounds, ive got home and for some reason i cant get a decent picture anymore! maybe i havent connected the ariel properly, but i'm v peed off and keep gettting frustrated with it

Go back and argue mate, stand your ground and quote sales of goods act at them about it needing to be "fit for purpose" and "of satisfactory quality". Also you can reject faulty goods "within a reasonable amount of time" (typically around 3-4 weeks) under the Sales of Goods Act and the retailer has to abide by this. Given you bought it today, I think thats a perfectly reasonable amount of time! Stand your ground and get them to take it back. I think all this stuff under the SoG Act is your "statuary rights" always mentioned in returns policies, though I'm not sure about that little bit.

All this info courtesy of the Which? Consumer Rights Guide

Let us know what happens mate.

Take it back, ask politely but firmly to speak to the manager. Refuse to accept any fobbing you off excuses. As stated in a previous post, keep stating it is not fit for purpose. Do so in a louder than average voice to attract attention in the store (preferably when it's busy). No matter how much they try to rile you, do not lose your ragstart shouting or get ****ty with therm, as they will say you're being unreasonable and refuse to deal with you. Ask for either a refund or an exchange.

They will sort it...eventually. Unfortunately, I speak from experience, but I got their in the end in my case.

    Good luck!

If it makes you feel any better, - after an engineer came out and confirmed that I had a fault with my telly (which could not be fixed as a part was disconntinued) it took me countless letters to the managing director of Comet, countless letters to the managing director of Panasonic, countless phone calls, countless arguements, untold attitude, spanning over EIGHT MONTHS, - for them to take away my telly and give me my money back.

I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM COMET, CURRYS, PC-WORLD (one in the same shop) EVER - AGAIN !!!!!!!!

After I got my money back, I brought my telly from House of Fraser, - as said above, you get a 5 year guarentee as standard (tvs over 28"), and with something like a telly, that's definitely worthwhile.

Good luck Manimal, - it'll be a battle, but you will get there eventually.

Thay have sold you a faulty product which under the sale of goods act you are entitled to a replacement or a refund, when you buy something you are covered by the sale of goods act, this means the product must be in good working order, your TV is not in good working order because of the faulty pixel right in the centre of the screen, if you don't get any joy from them get in touch with Consumer Direct who will give you advise on which road to go down, they'll also issue you with a reference number so when you phone back they've got your case number right in front of them.

Had similar dealing with commet, their fault return policy is - they have 4 weeks to solve the fault, if its not resolved within that time you should get a new replacement, also get a replacement tv before you send your one to get repaired otherwise you wint have any tv at all

Have found comet a nightmare myself. Their customer service sucks and they seem to operate above the law, often ignoring things like Sale Of Goods act altogether. They quite simply hate issuing replacements or refunds. It's probably tied into management's bonuses how few refunds they give which is probably why they resist so heavily. Like banks chains like Kingfisher group are almost criminal in their activity. very happy to take ytour money. Not so happy to give it back.

Lol they work off commision if i remember right as my dad went in there once and spent over £1000 and when my dad went to pay for it the bloke was all happy and smiling
until my dad pulled out his kingfisher card which knocked about 20% off lol
Think kingfisher sold comet a few years ago not long before screwfix closed in leicester

    Currys

3 days, 3 laptops and a lot of stress later and I am finally satisfied with what I have.

Number 1 wouldn't even boot so that was a no brainer for returning, Number 2 would randomly blue screen at most inoppurtune moments... That took a bit more convincing and this one finally does what it says on the box which makes life a bit better!

There is no law to govern this, the reguired amount of Dead or Stuck pixels are givin by the manufacturer, so check the manual.

More and more companies are now offering a 1pixel return policey, but not most at the moment, have you tried tapping, the screen just on the pixel, if its on red it usually means it jsut stuck.
