Comp ready in a year?

Guy in our gym wants to do the first comp of the season in 09 (Prolab Lochgelly) in the first timers, he,s been training seriously for just over a year and weighs in at just over 12st and i would guess his BF at 15%. I was just wondering if in your opinion he could do it and be ready for May next year all i said to him was all the best go for it!

    Good for him!!

Would be helpful to see some photos, I mean, im sure he could get in condition, whether or not he'd look any good is something
    different altogether,

But respect to him for trying!

    Shut up and squat

In 12 months if hes already leanish he could jump on the sauce, pile on a good few pounds and have plenty of time to trim back down.

By easily I was talking about the length of time to get the job done, not the effort involved.

He probably won't win anything but he wouldn't embarass himself.

depends on his condition i guess as i was told by a pro the other day to get the weight thing out of my head and if i have the condition i will beat a bigger/heavier guy ,i never really thought of it that way .
however ive been training for alot longer than 1yr

i used to have a handle on life but it broke

ah, see what you mean mate, maybe he could, but if you dont go out to win whats the point??

all down to the individual i suppose, and how they respond to gear and training

Difficult to say without seeing him. As said first timers are excellent these days. Huge and ripped, don't expect an easy ride.

He stands a shade over 5ft 7" so he,d be class 3 i think, Gear has been discussed from time to time like all gyms so maybe he will. Once i know him a bit better i could chance a camera but at the moment he waits until the gym,s empty to use the mirrors.

was one tough line-up at the first timers this year in lochgelly,

but thats not too say he shouldnt do it,

im like many others ,just dont have the genetics to get huge and ripped , and so ill prob never win anything, but i sure as hell wouldnt let that stop me getting into the condition of my life and going on stage

for me competing is very much a personal batlle, if i can get bigger/better everytime im get on stage thats the reward i need.

Probably not, unless he has exceptional genetics and lifestyle. But then I dislike seeing a crap physique on stage and do not conform the the viewpoints 'well done for trying', 'at least he's got the guts to get up there', etc

If you're crap, you're crap - accept this and get better. Nothing worse and skinny and fatty standing on stage in a pair of Speedos

In fairness Colin at 12 stone and 15 % BF you do have to wonder what'd be left once he got right down to comp condition.

See your point mate even on gear i would doubt if he could gain enough mass to put up a reasonable show but i felt it wasnt my place to say no dont do it.

Thats what i was thinking. I dont think it could be done in a year, but we could make a better judgement if we could see him.
