Concered about my heart rate. Too high ??

Hi
Im on a cutting regime and i do 30-45 mins cardio after weights. One thing that concerned me is that the heart monitor on the cross trainer  shows my heart rate at 192, the cross trainer has some metal plates on the handles to measure heart rate, but im not sure how accurate they actually are
If i was going by what the cross trainer says its very very hard to keep my heart rate low, i would have to just stand there lol

BTW im 18

Not unknown for the x trainer to be on the blink, tho generally they agree with my HRM

How fit are you ? Just started or generally active? I'd expect a HR of 160 ish for moderate cardio at your age.

Take your pulse using the old fashioned menthod (Fingers at the neck, wrist or groin) and get a rough idea if the HR given by the machine is anywhere near correct.

As donny mentiones above, they can be quite temperamental these sort of things, so could be an incorrect reading.  However, if you are quite unfit, it may well be a true reading .....

At 18 your heart rate will be naturally faster than it will in a few years, so I probably wouldn't worry too much, but sometimes its better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't worry too much if you are doing relatively high-intensity work, but if you're just doing gentle cardio then get yourself to a doctor as 192 is pretty high. I generally max out at about 195 with HIIT, but everyone is different and I'm a few years older than you.

Also, check your resting heart rate. Take your pulse for the next 30 seconds and times it by two to get an accurate result. If your resting pulse is above 90 then its 'probably' just due to your age/fitness.
