Counsellors / Psychotherapists advice

Hello everyone

Wanted some advice from anyone that is or has trained to become a counsellor and/or psychotherapist.
I want to study to become a counsellor/psychotherapist and wanted to know the most efficient route. I'm currently in full time employment in engineering and plan to stay that way until I know I can be self sufficient (should the opportunity arise) in this new field.
I've seen an OU introduction course to Counselling, which seems exactly that. It sounds like a good starting point and is recognised by BACP, but at £600+ for ~12 week online module it seems excessive.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks AC

In my head it makes perfect sense, a cautionary tale of sitting on a fence...
