If you're adding fast carbs in your PWO shake (ie malto in your case), then add creatine to it, as it has been shown that it increases (its already good) absorption a bit. In non workout days (when I assume you have no fast acting carbs), then take it whenever you wish. In all honesty, since in workout days you have a PWO shake anyway, there's absolutely no reason why you should take it another time
