You can do grip work with just your basic dumbells if money is tight. CoC grippers don't use thumbs much, so if you want to improve your finger strength one exercise is "finger curls". I don't know what they're actually called but that's what I call them. Just roll the dumbell down your fingers until they are almost at full stretch and you're holding on to the dbells with just your finger tips. Then use finger strength to bring the dbell up into your palm again. 5 reps.
Another easy way to help crushing grip is just get a ball like a tough rubber dog's ball, and crush the hell out of it. You can use anything for this, things with a bit of give in them are best of course, but anything will do. Just crush them all!
