Dark side of bodybuilding

Except for steroids, what will you consider the dark side of bodybuilding? I remember some days when I have gone too far with this hobby totally cut off and isolated from the world. For someone who was very skinny at the age of 17, it was an absolute must. The effort paid off in the end, but the effects have stayed with me till this date. My personality changed over the years, now I have a tough time making friends, finding jobs or even ending up in a relationship with opposite sex. Its tough to say whether the gamble was right or wrong. Even now, whenever I find myself bored or depressed, I just think of lifting weights, sometimes I go to gym twice a day for this reason. Have I turned into the dark side of bodybuilding?

Improved confidence is great and can only be a good thing but I hate the ego heads that walk around permanently with the arms out like they're some sort of beast. Ok, if you are a beast that's more acceptable lol

    Eating disorders
    Marriage breakups
    Extreme narcissism
Skewed priorities (placing B/B over work, study, family)
    Superiority complexes

I've seen or at least heard of cases of all of the above in varying forms. This is when IMO a hobby, pastime and lifestyle becomes an obsession and takes away a truly balanced life.

Is your training journal one big troll also?  As someone who "bodybuilds" you would surely squat more than 30kg and bench more than 20 kg?!?

I don't like to lift heavy especially on exercises which require a spotter. I make sure I lift weights that I can easily and safely lift for 12 reps. Like I mentioned in my training journal, I hardly trained legs during my 8 years of training. Also with bench press, I will not do anything silly to give myself an injury or simply drop off the weights half way during the rep.

Aye good shout.  Adding them silly round weights to the bar is quite a silly thing to do.

Especially if you want to be a bodybuilder!! I know the mantra of lift for reps not weight but no one has developed a physique by repping 40 kg for bench!!!

Like everything else, bbuilding is great in the right doses,i think dark sides come out when it goes above and beyond those doses.
