Deadlifitng without using legs

hello

could someone tell me the correct technique of doing deadlifts but without hitting the quads, glutes and hamstring? I am thinking of doing them that way from now on because i think that my legs are getting a bit too much excercise at the moment. (i kill em on legs day!)

and also, would this hamper your back development if i changed my lifting technique? cheers

Excuse me for my bad English

not possible mate, if you do straight leg deadlifts you dont use your quads as much, it would be imposible however to dead lift without using your hamstring muscles, glutes same, all the muscle you mention are used to deadlift.

    As above.

The prime movers of the deadlift are hams, glutes and quads. Less knee flexion equals less quad involvment. Deadlifting is a lower body exercise, you cannot deadlift without the legs!

The deadlift is a compound movement that works grip strength, and the primary muscles used in the deadlift are the erector spinae, the gluteus maximus, adductor magnus, hamstrings, quadriceps, and the soleus. The remaining muscles are involved in stability control.

I believe there is a lift recommended by Pavel Tsatsouline called the health lift/deadlift lock out.

This is more of a partial deadlift as the start position has the bar at just above knee height.

I guess this would reduce the amount of work done by the legs, but it's still not possible to eliminate leg involvement completely.

mate post your routine, you can still have dead lifts in your rountine even if you do give your legs a battering when you train them as long as you have ample space between training your legs and back (presuming you deadlift on the day you train your back)

Nope. It's still all legs. Partial pulls do not make the lift any less 'legs'.

Ahh,i just assumed that because the range of motion was less,it would reduce their involvment..My bad.

Hawar what muscles are you trying to train by not bending your leg when you deadlift?

Back extensions/hypers will train your erectors.

it's simple : do rowing with a barbell if you want to train your back without using your legs.

As canidrinkwinny said why not to a heavy bent over row instead?
