Deadlift, Barbell or Hex cage?

Which would you choose if you had the choice?

Just incase you haven't seen a Hex cage

I'd choose a barbell over a trap bar.

However thats just me and I am a baised PL that dosn't like using a trap bar :)

Trap bar will, generally speaking, mean less stress on the lower back and more quad work. This could be good or bad dependent what your doing the lift for?

I've always known it as a trap bar rather than a hex cage...which makes more sense to me because I'd only use it for shrugs.

Another reason I'd use BB is that it will stand you in good stead if you should ever choose to perform other oly lifts that start from the floor. And yes I am aware that the start of a clean isn't exactly the same as a deadlift, but it's close enough.

    Current training: 6-day split

    Thanks

I'll use a barbell for my deadlift.

^ The trap bar would actually make your deadlift form better IMO as you're lifting the weight up from your centre of gravity and not infront of you... Might not make sense, but it does to me... I for one am not flexible enough to perform excellent tekkers when it comes to deadlifting, however my tekkers are alot better if I use dumbells cos I can keep my arse lower and my back more upright...

    Current PB's
    100kg Clean & Jerk
    110kg Bench
    190kg Deadlift
    140kg Back Squat
    120kg Front Squat

They are different lifts. Having lower hips and more upright torso isn't allways ideal in the deadlift. It dose however depend on proportions. Generally shorter squater guys will tend to have lower hips and a bit more quad into the lift. Taller more 'longer' proportioned guys often will set the hips higher.

    Generalities off course.

It is probably easier to get a better set up on the trap bar which is what I think Shae is alluding too.
