Yeah, when I watched the video of the 1st attempt back I was amazed by the speed off the floor. Tried to hitch more on the 2nd attempt, but I think the suit made my shoulders round a bit therefore making the lockout harder.

You need to work partial deads from low and mid shin Ken!

im no expert but it looked like you straightened your legs too early. then at top you tried to stiff deadlift it sort of. if you lent back a bit more and kept your legs more bent at top, so as to get more power from legs i think you'd have lifted that easy! when i get near top of lift my back is almost straight probably 20 degrees forward, then drive with hips and legs.

Suit AND straps?? I'm guessing the suits groove might differ from yours. Hence the quick pull others have mentioned but no strength at lock out when the suits power is gone.

I didnt use straps, I meant the straps on the suit. Plan is to work the lockout really hard over the 3 months Im back from Uni over summer instead of doing the coan/ phillipi routine again as its always my lockout that makes me fail!

I think that the suit maybe pulled my shoulders forward a little, but thats still no excuse to fail a lift like that when its above the knees.

What height would you say Dale, nothing above 15"?

    good attempt

very close just have to work in wipping the hips through to lockout,

as WD said you could try working on some partials/block deadlifts from mid shin level, andy bolton utilizes them a lot in his training

I dont know the exact height Ken but say - 4" higher than normal and 8" - your lockout is not the issue your not getting close enough to lockout for it to be a problem!

Ah got you mate. When you set up your rack pulls do you do it so that its like that part of the dead; ie. mid shin so using some legs aswell?

I mean as in if it were a high rack pull your legs would almost be locked out at that position during a convo deadlift. Do you personally set it up as it would be during a normal pull or whats your set up?

Same for a low pull, during convo there would likely still be a high percentage of leg involvement, set it up as if that point of a normal dead.

So basically, use quite a bit of legs during a low pull and pregressivly less as the pull gets higher?

But why would you want to use the legs as much as possible when its the lockout that is the problem, surely this is more of a lower back issue than legs.

you more advanced then me your 19 and have better lifts then me and ive never done rack pulls ever before. so upto you to take my advice. but i presume if the mid part/lockout of lift is where your failing then taking the lower part of lift out of the equation would benefit by being able to concentrate on the lockout part of lift. then once stronger at the lockout part you should eventually be better at full range of movement.

i can see where your coming from with using bit more back then legs to strengthen back, but are you failing becuse of lower back not strong enough? isnt it a combination of hips, legs, back?

Use the exact technique you would use on a regular deadlift but in the rack - you will be surprised how hard it is at the lower heights and it does take a lot of leg drive out of it!
