I once stood on one of those things when I was half ripped - tops abs visible and seperation in quads, well defined bis/tric etc told me I was 26%. A male, non-bbing friend then said "Well women do have much higher bodyfat". Lets just say I stomped off in a huff for half an hour. Visibly I was around 12-14% I reckon.
Did have a tanita some years back, had an athlete setting and I used it as a weighing scale as well as rough guide to progress. You have to use them same time and in the same food/carb/hydration state. If I stood on it dehydrated (after a night out) then BF would be 5 points up.
So can be useful benchmark all being equal but I'd stick to the mirror and if you must have a number to show off with get some calipers.
