Did you do what you dreamt of when you grew up?

i never knew what i wanted to do when i was a kid.

i was always into computers, so at 16 i got a job fixing pc's in a computer shop.

then i stayed in IT till i was 21 when i became a copper. i had no inclination ever in my life to do that job, it just kinda happened one day that i thought i'd give it a go.

anyway, at 22 i left that job as a copper cos it was crap and am now back in IT at the same time as being at uni.

so in answer to the question, i never had a dream of what i wanted to do, and i still don't know either!!

I wanted to be a sniper in the SAS.

I could still be a sniper, anytime I wanted, however unfortunately life imprisonment wasn't also a childhood dream lol.

Well I thought it might be good to be a farmer. Have my own herds of various animals. Maybe train them to attack people.

However as I aged, I realised that farmers live alone and shovel sh't all day. Their animals hate them and can not be trained for attack purposes (well apart from the dogs, but other people have dogs too, not just farmers).

So my childhood dream was dashed. I decided it was best not to dream. Apart from about having sex with women, which I've achieved, so well done me.

The first ever job I wanted was to be archaeologist. I can also remembering wanting to be a fighter pilot. There was also a week when I wanted to be a binman after watching the movie 'Men at Work' (I was probably about 8 or 9 at the time though). In my teens I wanted NBA basketballer. Doesn't look likely I'll ever work any of these jobs, although if I really work hard maybe, just maybe, one day I can be a binman.

LOL I'd forgotten about that Soap.

I did have the excuse of extreme youth though. You have no excuse apart from being nuts.

I wanted to be a paelientologist (sp), i used to really like learning about dinosaurs when i was a kid, i wanted to be one if the guys to find a new species of carnivorous dinosaur.

Im not a paelientologist now though, when i gradually got fed up with dinosaurs after age 12 and got told it was major long hours with not much pay and required years of studying and research at uni...thats when i thought 'fuk that'.

Then from 17 years old (still classified as a child) i had a different dream, im working myself towards it and think i can reach it, its on its way, but takes time and patience.

Doesn't take ELEVEN years to become a quack!!! Not in the UK, at least...

    4 years Medical Degree;
    3-4 years Internship.

Take heart, a friend of mine went back to Uni aged THIRTY SIX to start the process!!!

Me - I loved (and still love) animals and wanted to become a Zookeeper - trouble is, Zoo owners know most staff do it for love, and pay accordingly. I'd still donate a few free hours on a Saturday if I lived near one.

Otherwise - becoming a BB'er and owning a convertible. Check on both counts.

I dreamt of working shifts in a stinking factory , surrounded by the dregs of humanity.
    I'm living the dream

No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH  - drab4

Ha! Wish I had been wealthy 20y.o in '88, they were the mutts nuts back then. Today - black 2.3I Saab 900SE, Auto, cream leather seats, cup holder...

Ps MuscleMan - GO. I wish I had upped and gone at your age. Even if things go belly-up, you have TONS of time to restart here or anywhere else. Pagan - factories aren't the only places to work if you want to be surrounded by the Great Unwashed. I've paid dues in offices where staff meetings resemble Hitler Youth rallies...

Hmmm, always wanted to be a farmer after growing up on one until was let loose with the welder in the farm workshop aged about 13 and after several non intentional attempts at mortally wounding myself with the equipment now run a structural steel fabrication business. Didn't ever dream of doing it though, it just happened!

I got Men at Work the other week on DVD, top film (kids film, but it's got Keith David in who rocks)

However Cliffy your childhood film top gun.... im surprised you didn't dream of being a vegas dancer as thats the campest film of all time.

I always wanted a job in IT, now im there I'd like a job anywhere but here... I'd love to me a math's savant like matt damon in goodwill hunting lol

F1 driver!!! Still achievable but I would need to get off my arse go get a job to buy a little runabout and get my racing licence. I could try and achieve it but If I dont I will have wasted a couple of years that could have been spent on another career.

Also wanted to be a car designer!!!!
Cant Draw I could model cars out of clay though!!! But most carunerversitys and collages are all out of london

The two things I want more than anything in the world shattered at the tender age of 16

Formula 1 driver still achievable? How old are you?

Its probably harder to be a formula 1 driver (employed for an f1 team) than an olympic athlete or pro bodybuilder.

Youd have to be about 15 years old and the british champ at go kart racing to even think about becoming a pro f1 driver.

Still, v nice job if your doing it, loads of money, girls, rich rich rich people BUT possibly the most boring sport to watch ever.
