Do you believe in the Supernatural?

Ghosts?
Tarot card readings?
Extra-sensory Perception?
God or gods?
Lay lines?
Fairies?
An afterlife?
Magic?
Anything!

Is there any substance to any of the above or is it all superstitious nonsense? Does the human race in general have a need to believe that there is something else other than what we can see or hear?

Personally I believe in nothing supernatural. We are just another life form on a rock in the vast expanse of the universe. I do believe there is much life in the universe but how much of that is intelligent life is impossible to say. Other than that we are on our own. No supernatural all seeing being watching over us. No afterlife. No extra senses that can read others minds or see into the future.

Anything supernatural you believe in?

As a kid yes, and my older brother and I used to love reading books about unsolved mysteries, ghosts and stuff.

I've only ever had 1 experience in my life which I would class as a supernatural one, that I have no explanation for it still till this day. When I was a teen, I was home alone and heard a very distinct voice of a dead relative call my name. Strange indeed, but no proof of anything other than perhaps my mind playing tricks on me.

My mother claims to have lived in a haunted house when she was young, and her and her siblings all recall seeing ghosts.

Now that I'm older, I tend to be less inclined to believe in this sort of stuff as I've never seen anything. However, my mum and my aunties all claim to have seen various ghosts when they all lived together.

Never experienced a supernatural event myself though I remember handing over the old mansion house in Imber village back to the range warden (Imber village was evacuated during WWII to train troops for urban fighting for D Day and still used for urban warfare). The range warden refused point blank to step inside the building. When I asked him why he said he was in there one day and a woman's voice plain as day said behind him 'What right have you to be here'. He said he turned around, nobody was there; he checked the other rooms and found nobody. Obviously sh1t scared by now he ran out of the mansion and has never stepped foot inside since. Obviously I had to go inside, check the cleanliness and close all the shuttered windows. And yes, I was a little apprehensive even though I don't believe in ghosts.

I am very much a non believer, I thing life is very capable of throwing up some amazing ironies, coincidences and what appears to be karma, but I think it is pure chance and that there is no real order to it.

As I get older I am developing a strong dislike of those that pedal their services to the vulnerable and the desperate. Although I do know plenty of people with half convincing anecdotes about how some tarot card reader couldn't have possibly known the stuff they told them ..  yawn!    I saw a great James Randi video where he is debunking a medium, her satisfied customer recalled that she had suggested about 6 names, but the reading had been recorded, and she had actually asked over 37 names!! including random questions like "name beginning with M" etc.

I think cold reading this is the crux behind all of this stuff, My feeling is, the people that go to these readings, even the ones that swear they are sceptical, have already made up their mind (subconsciously) that they are going to believe it before they go.

Actually, here is the video, just the first few minutes, but the rest is a good watch if you haven't seen it already.

Physics as proved ghosts cant exist (within our understanding)https://www.sciencealert.com/a-physicist-just-explained-why-the-large-hadron-collider-disproves-the-existence-of-ghosts

I say I don't believe in ghosts,
but would I stay in a so called haunted house for a month?, no..
Would I buy an house where I know someone was murdered in it?, no
etc

I think its your own mind that you need to be wary about..........not ghosts.

Although there is so much we don't understand about our universe, we are nowhere with regards understanding it, bit like expecting am amoeba to get to the moon.

Ive always had the impression that some places/houses hold negativity. The last house I owned, I never felt right from the day I moved in, just something about it, old unlucky house.

One of my best mates' family owned a castle (yes indeed) that was supposedly haunted. We played that game where he took me in each room one by one and I had to guess if it was one of the haunted ones. Not sure if I was just picking up the vibes from him but you definitely felt something.

I believe there is more to this experience that we are having as humans then we are able to see, hear and feel. I feel bad for people that just believe that we are walking flesh bags that when we die that that is the end. I can not really go into all what I believe but I guess my beliefs are mainly in line with buddhism.

Just look at the word 'super-natural', many things we do not understand are just natural we just call it super because most people do not have an understanding of those things yet.

That said, I do not believe in pretty much all of the things listed.

I do a lot of push ups and sit ups. And I drink plenty of milk.

I understand what you mean.

I believe there are just strange things in the universe, which sounds odd and a cop out, but some stuff is probably just beyond us.

When my uncle died young, my nan took some of his furniture to her house along with various other bits and bobs. At the time, my nan had a beautiful and very placid rottweiler. Well, on multiple occasions, this dog would just run up to my uncles favorite arm chair and just start barking and growling... Probably just a strange coincidence, but at the time quite unnerving for my family. In the end the dog just stopped barking, but would never go near the chair.

Some things are just strange.

I’ve mentioned it on here before but I’ve saw some really fvcked up sh!t when I went on a church youth group camp in my early teens.. a devil , a demon I don’t know what but looking into this guys eyes which were like an abyss and hearing his deep demonic roaring voice it wasn’t normal and it was pure evil and not of this world. 5 people holding him down while an exorcism of sorts is done is horrific and not something 20 odd 13-16 year olds should see.. all our parents were called and they had to drive and pick us up as everyone didn’t want to be anywhere near this.

I dont really talk about it to others as people think you’re just a crackpot but it’s one of the fundamental memories I have and affected me deeply for a long time and even now I can’t watch horror films about supernatural things. Psychopaths yes, anything else and I’m like a wreck for weeks as it just goes over and over in my head, but not the film, that aweful memory of that night

There is a part of that wants to believe there is more once we 'vacate our physical form' but I certainly don't believe in any such thing as a fact it's more a hope centred around my absolute fear of death.

There would appear to be an answer for most supernatural experiences. Readings etc I'm certainly not into, an interesting skill but not a reality. Ghosts are an odd one.... if real,  how come ghosts are able to make themselves appear fully clothed etc how come they aren't a strange looking mystical blobs of soul. How can they walk thru walls but not fall thru floors. My mum and her brother played with a Ouija board as kids and apparently had to move house due to some of the weird sh!t that went on afterwards, but maybe her childhood memories are making her believe what they want under the circumstances. I get spooked by stuff but I'm not sure I honestly believe there is anything there. I'd like to as it may help calm my sometimes obsessive fear over death.

Magic, as in real magic not 'tricks' that would be cool, but nope.

I am open to the possibly that there could be something beyond our understanding tho.

No. Its clearly all bull.

Life, and the universe is amazing without inventing extra meaning to it.

Yeah, it's weird. I don't believe in anything supernatural but I remember leaving my rifle in a makeshift morgue in Kosovo after dropping off a body at night time and asking my mate to come back in with me for me to get it, which he wouldn't (not because he was scared but because he wanted me to be spooked going back in on my own). I was quite scared walking past all these bodies lying out in the corridor even though they're just inert forms, though you could obviously smell them. I had visions of one jumping up and grabbing me like some sort of zombie lol.

I've had a few things happen to me...ghost/spirit wise and ufo wise that I can't explain. I'm inclined to believe there are things beyond our knowledge, what they are we may never know.

Absolutely no dig at you mate, just in case I word this badly and it sound like I am.... but this is one thing I find interesting that almost edges me more on the non-believer side.

When these things happen, you get people who never see or experience anything of any supernatural explanation, but you do get others who seem to have experienced several different types of supernatural/unexplained phenomena. Can never figure out how something so few people experience can be experienced several time by certain individuals.... like winning the lottery 4 times

LOL I think that would be fairly normal to be fair, the thinking of a stiff sitting up like a zombie, not it actually happening lol.

No. However, that's only because I haven't seen compelling evidence to support the above and I'm wired to be sceptical. Also, it's worth noting that confirmation bias / presuppositions will allow people to lower or raise the bar of evidence for what they WANT to believe. So many will accept something with very little evidence if it fits into their narrative, however, if it challenges foundational beliefs (the very beliefs people hold about reality and their place in it), well good luck getting people to swallow that pill. It invites chaos into order and people aren't great at voluntarily subjecting themselves to chaos.

I mean Look at the conversations people have with religious fundamentalists. They are secure in their beliefs regardless of shaky logic or lack of evidence, they have order... life makes sense, the thought of an afterlife brings enormous psychological comfort. You try throwing evidence or phrases like 'burden of proof' about and see how far it gets you... Many don't seem to understand how many of their beliefs are inherited, moulded in youth and further shaped the rest of time via the lens of bias.

I find my default position to be one of rejection of the above phenomena because they do not align with my own understanding, lack of empirical evidence or anything I can find when tested via the scientific method (which I understand may not be practical with super natural phenomena). Yet, I'm not arrogant enough to believe my personal understanding of the world around me is by any means definitive. I would try my hardest to keep an open mind when presented with something that appears to fly in the face of what I understand. I definitely put myself in the category above of needing a high bar of evidence to believe in ghosts for instance. A sketchy 360p video recording in the dark or an anecdote from a friend would not cut it.

Gods, as in pagan beliefs 're the seasons, nature, how we're here and my own indigenous ancestry.
