Do you have any fashion sense?

I ask the question of other people because I am in my late 30s and personally I don't have any fashion sense at all. I can dress casually for my work which is mostly physical work. I am a lanky kind of build and consider myself lucky if an item of clothing compliments my slim frame and big feet.

In the last year I have bought and kept: Five shirts, which don't fit good and are awful colours (I don't know a good shirt pattern from a bad one). I realised the "tailored fit" shirt I got from M&S has baggy arms so don't wear it.

Four pairs of trousers. Dockers, Two M&S and one Gap. Out of these only the Gap pair is fitted and looks good. The others are all borderline loose / regular fit.

Three pairs of shoes. One casual leather pair that look like they should be worn with jeans, some OK leather loafers from Aldo (the leather smells nice, not sure about how they look), and some casual brown Clarks shoes. All seem to be awful in one way or another and I only wear the Clarks occasionally.

This is just a taste of how bad things are and how I waste money on clothing. Anyone else with a worse horror story to make me feel better?

My realisation lately is that if you have a certain body type you need to "own it" so to speak, and go for fitted clothing. In my case being self-conscious and tall I tend to avoid fitted stuff as I don't want people staring at my height / build.

I give no thought to how I dress at all unless it's absolutely necessary. Most days I wear a t-shirt, Judo gi pants and trainers.

It's only a big deal if you make it a big deal.

If you work out you can look good in anything. If you have a fat belly and skinny arms you look siht in anything

I wear jeans polo for work or suit. Rest of the time I'm literally in either camouflage clothing, waterproofs or gym clothes. I'm certain as you get older (boring) nobody gives a fck about what your wear so long as it's appropriate to the occasion.

LOL. Fair enough. Not giving a fck would also be a massive thing. I guess worrying what people might think of clothing is part of the problem when you're self-conscious. I only need one person to stare at my long legs and it bothers me.

As for the skinny arms comment. I agree to a point. There are some young guys who wear fitted t-shirts and manage to get away with being skinny / slim and "owning" the look. Apart from body weight exercises I'm not doing arms at the moment and it probably makes a difference.

Anyway, next stop is a pair of tailor made jeans, and more shoes. Probably more money down the drain, but I guess it's trial and error.

Live in gym clothes and even when I'm going out it's t-shirt and jeans unless it's somewhere more fancy and I'll maybe wear a white shirt.

Fashion doesn't interest me!

Ditto. The idea that I need to worry about what I wear in case someone else does - pah.

At 6"5 with long limbs I've always had a problem buying clothes, particularly pants being too short. Nothing sexier than sitting at a table and people can see your knees lol.

I once branched out and went to this shop in town called 'kingsize menswear'. All the ads on TV were with really tall, built sports stars so I thought I'll give it a go.

Turns out all of the pants cater for the horizontally challenged customer, rather than tall people, lol.

I used to be really into nice clothes and being "fashionable".  I was never one for designer names, more looking for something a bit different.

I am losing interest these days and at 40 years old I have realised I still have the tendency to dress a bit too young for my age.  I am making a conscious effort to dress a little bit smarter and I suppose older.  I am also starting to appreciate the quality of designer clothes and whilst I don't pay a fortune for stuff, if I can get a decent shirt in a sale or take advantage of the cheaper prices when I visit America on a work trip (there is an outlet right next to our office in Chicago), I'm doing it and building a better wardrobe.

Made s bit of an effort in my 20,s but not bothered these days as i dont feel the need impress anyone and doubt they would be impressed if i did lol

Anyways, what i wear these days always seems acceptable, polo tshirts never go out lol

Im in my 40,s, when i see other guys in their 40,s being fashionable, i either think their wifes dress them or are still trying hang on to their youth.

What should the average Joe in his 40's wear though, remember we grew up in the 80's not the 60's like we see old boys today wearing sensible chinos and rain shoes, I still wear skateboard type clothes and hoodies etc but so do many of today's youth, they copy us 👍

I used to keep up to date with all this stuff but I don't go in for designer names these days, preferring instead to seek out good quality clothing rather than paying over the odds for some brand I've never heard of.

I dress for the occasion planned be it wearing a rock t shirt to a gig, smart but casual for a meal out, suit for weddings etc. And all these ridiculous-looking folk who wear the top names in the gym are just laughable. You're there to train, it ain't a bloody catwalk ffs!

Couldn't give a sh¥t about what I wear. I dress half smart for work because I have to. Other than that I wear shorts and a t shirt pretty much year round.
