Do you have low self esteem?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate your self esteem?
1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.

Do you even feel that you have a good understanding of what self esteem is?

Pretty high. It goes through ups and downs and varies depending on the area of my life.  My self esteem takes most of a battering at work where I regularly feel like a retard. I've kind of got used to that feeling now though.

You know, I struggle to understand people with LOW self-esteem.  I can't fathom it's root cause; I myself was told, growing up, I'd amount to very little, from an age well before I had the nouse to call bullsh1t, but I always innately knew that HAD to be bullsh1t.   The more often it was repeated, the more I was convinced it was all a psych warfare battle - I just had no idea what the prize was???

What on Earth made me different to the people who get to adulthood actually believing they deserve nothing?  Outside of knowing that most people are fcking idiots, not much.  Now I think about it, maybe that's just it; if you have the intellect to know your detractors are talking out of their arses, just trying to compensate for their own failures, I suppose I was immunized right at the start.

Low self-estem can come from a ****ed up country not giving ordinary people a living, house, good pay etc if you get what I mean. For example its your environment. Things don't fall in place for everybody.

Low self-esteem is a pretty meaningless term.
What is low/high relative to?
Average self-esteem? What's that?

TBH, low self-esteem isn't necessarily a bad thing, if it's realistic.
Unrealistically high self-esteem is much more dangerous, as evidenced by the people who* run this country.

I guess "esteem" can be determined - or diagnosed? - as being a positive or negative individual, somewhere in between, or having a big ego or being socially upbeat.
Having a certain social anxiety deriving from hereditary shyness. Would that be termed as low self esteem?
Tricky question which needs thought.

I didn't think I did, but I'm struggling at work to motivated myself lately.

I'm currently reading a book called "Get Stuff Done" which starts by identifying low self esteem and attributing it to procrastination and general motivational issues.  I'm only 1/4 way through it so I'll see if it helps me.

My diet, training, running is spot on at the minute and I sometimes which I could apply that discipline to my work/career.

99% high. I'm happy with who I am, what other people think doesn't matter too much to me. I'm happy with my lot in life and where it might be heading and I guess having a high self esteem adds to that.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance in the rain.

Ha it is.  The irony is I identified the book, decided to read it........ it took me weeks to get round to actually downloading it (ebook) and another few weeks to start reading it.  The intro was a little boring although now it's started getting interesting so I'm reading it everyday.

From experience of dealing with many I have found that about 50% of people with high self esteem are simply deluded and full to the brim with selfish shi*.  What they think of themselves does not match the reality of 'what is'. Its false confidence masked as 'high esteem'.

They tend to think they are superior to people they have never met and know nothing about and go into blind situations over confident.  When they take a dent they often fail to learn from it as their high regard for themselves wont let them and they simply delude themselves that its everyone and everything else that's caused it as they are one of life's 'Go getters' who would die before quitting etc.

They talk a good game but often talk down and look down on people only to get exposed.

Recently employed and sacked a guy who failed to produce 20% of the results that those around him brought in despite these cats being modest. Self esteem was never in short supply though.

I think there are some people who are genuinely filled with high esteem who are professional in life and can take the rough and tumble while never letting it bother them and remaining motivated when many would be pis8ed off.. Its a quality character trait to have and one I would have liked.

But I would rather be successful and take the highs and lows the best I can than be full of shi*.

It's a weird one. I think it's very situationally-dependent. It is high in some areas, not so high in others, and subject to change quite frequently.

For example looks-wise, some days you can look in the mirror and think you look the absolute sh*t, other times you just look like sh*t.

It's funny because I'd say I'm the opposite, work is where I excel and I'm better at it than anything else in my life, so my self esteem is probably at its highest when I'm there (which is more often than not these days!)
