Do you have to sweat to burn fat?

Does this statement have any truth: The more you sweat the more fat you burn.

I wouldnt have thought so but someone said it to me when I said walking is just as good as running for purely fat burning purposes.

I am wrong?

Sweating loses water weight, not fat.

Some people say you need to wear thick clothes so you sweat more when you work out, but all it really does is leave you dehidrated.

You don't have to sweat to burn fat.

    Yeah I know that.

I meant do you have to be sweating to be in the fat burning zone - ie running really fast to make you sweat.

no sweat loss has nothing to do with fat loss, you can burn fat gently walking,
i train very hard but like a lot of people i dont allways sweat. sweat is a way of the body cooling down if the bodys core temp is hot you will sweat

    No.

Depends on how fit you are really though, i.e. someone who is new to cardio and is heavier than the average person, will sweat more during exercise, compared to someone who is not as heavy and who has been doing the cardio for a while.

Low intensity cardio makes me slightly sweaty, nothing too bad but just so i have a slight sweat.

The only energy system to burn fat (apart from starvation mode) is the aerobic system which produces energy for prolonged periods of activity.By products of this are CO2 and H2O...ie water = sweat. There has to be moisture from skin for fat to be used as a feul albiet not dripping. The more you sweat doesnt equate to the more fat youll burn.

if ur reffering 2 "Running really fast" i.e. working Anaerobically as apposed 2 light jogging (aerobic exercise) then no. To burn fat you must have used up ur carbohydrates for your body to start burning its fat supplys, it usually takes about 20 mins of exercise to start burning fat. If you trained harder u would use ur carbohydrates up faster but u will not be able to train as long so either way will burn fat.

Not entirely true entrophy....there always has to be a presence of glucose to metabolise fat.Fat can never used soley for energy production via aerobic energy system.

Yep bro, the more you sweat, the more fat will come off.

When you sweat, the sweat carries some fat cells with it that have dissolved into the sweat as your body has heated them up, this is thermogenic fat loss when the body heats up the fat cells and some break off into the endocrine system (ie sweat) and travel through the skin and out of the body. So essentially speaking by sweating more, more fat cells are leaving the body in the sweat and you will lose fat.

If you sweat in one area then more fat cells are removed from that area and carried away by the sweat, so you can spot reduce. A way of doing this is by using those electronic muscle stimulators. They dont cause you to gain muscle but what they do is cause your body to sweat (the good ones anyway) which again causes more fat cells to break down in that specific area (ie the ab region) and be carried away by the sweat from that region which is why your abs will appear 'toned'.

    Hope that helps mate

Btw, im only joking...sweat has nothing to do with losing fat at all mate, its to cool you down when your body overheats...best cardio for fatloss is a brisk walk or on a stepper, you dont have to sweat particularly much.

    LOL Brit

as steff said Co2 and water are by products of fat and carb burning.

but you can not measure your fat loss by the amount you sweat to many factors come into play.

the best way to deterine optimal fat burning is to do the origin test and buy a heart rate monitor

You bast....! As I was reading that I was remembering all the times I had mocked my mates for telling me they 'had a little boxers trick they knew' where you wrap your stomach in plastic to get a six pack.
