Do you maintain abs all year round?

I used to be obsessed with it, but since settling down in a relationship and my mrs preferring the fuller look, I've opted for a higher calorie approach to life.

I'm getting on a bit now so I'm not as vain as I used to be, I prefer being able to build strength more regularly than when living in constant calorie restriction and I'm able to enjoy a lot of food that I never used to.

Involuntarily, yes. Not a full on 'shredded' 6 pack but I do have visible abs all year round.

Current PB's
100kg Clean & Jerk
110kg Bench
190kg Deadlift
140kg Back Squat
120kg Front Squat

Well never seen them since going to the gym last 20 years, more due to forcing food in to gain size.

Different approach lately so hope to see them soon , if at least , vaguely . If I get there I plan to keep em all year round.

Yes. Not an amazing 6 pack, but flat stomach and rough outline. You don't need to put on lots of fat to gain muscle or strength. In the long run it will probably have a negative effect when you have to cut for a prolonged period. I eat and drink what ever
I like, but don't go massively over calories and if I do I'll just eat a little less the next day. Net effect = don't get fat.

Body Weight - 83kg
Bench - 145kg
Squat - 190kg
Clean & Jerk - 129kg
Snatch - 98kg

Some people will maintain abs better than others, some people out on fat easily than others, but if you've ever got down to a low percentage bodyfat then it should be easier to maintain leanness.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

I wouldn't pay any attention to body types. I've got friend's who have been all three.

The somatotype theory is considered quackery by anyone in the scientific or medical community. Only bodybuilding forums still seem to pay any attention to it for some reason, and even there they don't fully understand it and focus only on the physical aspects (in reality it was supposed to predict a psychological profile based on physical markers).

Every "ectomorph" I ever knew complained about not gaining weight while eating 2 meals a day or filling up on plain boiled chicken breasts and broccoli. And every "endomorph" I ever knew just ate crap and never kept track of calories (or grossly underestimated their food intake).

I am trying to right now after finding them this summer. Few reasons why -

I'm sick of cutting, running some crazy keto diet, getting a 6 pack for a couple of weeks then losing it when i eat normally again.

I'm now single so want to look good all the time.

I used to think it wasn't possible to maintain abs all year and chase muscle gain but after I've got a better understanding of my diet, I can see how it can be done.

Maintain a rough outline all year round. Some people will have less trouble trying to maintain abs than others.

I can get them back with an 8 week cut, but it would involve daily cardio and being overly-restrictive with diet. Life's too short :)

No. If I cared it would be yes.

If I thought it best to drop a weight class I would have some abbs all year round.

No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH  - drab4

I wish i could maintain them year round, alas the temptation of food prevents this from happening.

I can still see them and I know I'm only a few weeks of dieting away from getting them back fairly cut, but I know that if I attempt to keep LOW body fat, it goes against my genetics and instantly I smooth over.

I don't naturally have abs and even before I started training I had a pot belly at a low bodyweight. If I keep my diet strict I physically can't get in enough calories to maintain an adult physique!

Lol aint that the truth!
In my 20's ab's were there without doing anything.
Now it's abs or eat normal. Take your pick!
Today has been 2 protein bars and some nuts.
