Do you stretch?

Do you stretch before working out? If yes, how long do you do it for and do you stretch only the bodypart you will be working or the whole body?

I have been reading arnies encyclopedia recently and he recommends at least 10 mins stretching before starting your work-out

I can quite truthfully say i have never spent time stretching before a workout ever

Maybe it's time to start

    Yep, well so arnie says

So, is stretching just the same as warming up with light weights?

Or would you stretch and then warm up after?

I do a 5 minute warm up which involves stuff like jogging on the spot, jumping jacks and stretching the bodypart i'm about to work. Never been injured while lifting

stretching/warming up is pretty much the same thing. Start doing it, hell it may even improve your gains.

i stretch as part of my warm up, full body, bout 10-15 minutes, stretch the body part being trained in between sets, then spend about 15 minutes at the end of a workout(twice a week) doing progressive stretches to improve my flexability.

Skip to warmup, then a bit of dynamic or ballistic stretching (dependant on type of training), then developmental stretches to finished. Also started stretching my legs every morning in a bid to improve the flexibility of them.

    Unaffiliated.

Never done any stretching but plan on doing some fascia stretching to see if it helps with arm growth.

Your muscles fibres are covered in a strong sheath of connective tissue, its believed that this can limit growth, the idea is for example to get the biceps pumped to the max then perform an intense stretch which is held for 30 secs or so,the idea being to stretch this tissue which will allow growth.

    cheers bud.

I have had more injuries from stretching than I have from lifting. Now I just do a lot of light reps before I start. Stretching per se is bad news in my opinion, although it does sound like a good idea. I would suspect that, strange as it may sound the flexible benefit from stretching while the inflexible don't

Everything i do before working sets in whatever exercice i start with is a warm up to me. I never stretch before, always after.

I always do a stretch beforehand. But never do any kind of warm down. I've usually had enough by then!

Stretching is good, but should always be done after or as part of a warm up through dynamic stretching as the act of stretching actually works to cool down a muscle
