Does Anyone On Here Work For O2? (Iphone 3GS Availability)

I would like to get a Iphone 3GS and after spending the last week trying to get one to no avail do you know when the next batch is due in? I know it will change for different area's of the country but I would like a rough idea or if you can shed any light on the situation as I'm getting fed up O2's service and I haven't even joined them yet. So far I have heard either tomorrow (Friday) or early next week, I'm in Kent and I am looking for a 16gb black phone.

Cheers

Apparently these are selling faster than Apple can make them !!

When I bought mine the girl in the o2 shop said 16GB in Black were the most elusive , and that their were none in the country , and no idea when there would be any .       You could increase you chances by choosing a 32GB ,  but I am not sure , it may be that these are selling out too now.

The only place that I have seen that seems to put "updates" is the Carphone Warehouse

They seem to have the 32gb phones I just don't really want to get that model as I don't need one with that much memory, its more expensive and I feel that I'm falling into apple's trap of getting a more expensive model because they don't have my first choice in stock. Guess I'm going to just have to keep trying and wait it out.

Its not an Apple trp, yesterday the openly admitted they had no idea their would be such a demand and are looking at two more manufactuering lines to bring the numbers up.

Your best bet is to Pick 2 O2 stores close to you and ask to have you name down for when one comes in, even leave a diposit if you can.

I was reading on the BBC news website about the supply problem, still think its a bit crap. The phone has been out for over a month now and they still haven't got enough supply for the demand.

I did ask about reserving a phone when they are next in but they said its not possible. Think I will ring my local store at 9am or maybe just go it and see if they have any as Friday is the next day they have deliveries (if they have any 16gb 3GS in that delivery). If that store doesn't have any that I will try the Bluewater shop which opens an hour later. I though Apple would have been a lot better at dealing with the demand and its starting to spoil getting the phone now.

It's a worldwide problem, so I doubt Apple is happy either with all those lost sales.

You could wait another 11 months until the next one comes out now.

Latest figures show that over the last trading quarter Apple have sold 57,000 iPhones ( Inc  3GS's ) PER DAY !! (Think about that !! - thats 7,125 and hour based on an 8 hour day , EVERY day !!)

This has far exceeded their expectations

Have you tried the apple stores ?

I spent a few days sulking waiting for O2 or carphone warehouse to get some and then gave up and drove an hour to Lakeside to get my 16GB in white... They had black in stock at the time as well.

Desmo ordered one online ( black ) a few days later and it arrived within 2/3 days

This is for PAYG though, not sure what you do with apple and contacts

It is an awesome phone though, I love mine

    Apple = $$$$$$$$

In this global credit crunch, those figures as stated by DR Z are unbelievable.

Seems people are happy to pay 350+ for a phone a year!

But the real eye opener is this figure

    http://mytechnews.info/...rating-profit.html

RIM & Apple account for 3% to total mobile sales ..... and 35% of all mobile industry profit ( !!!!! )       Turnover is fantasy , profit is reality !
I suspect a similar story exists WRT the computer side of the business  -    this explains why market share isn't someting Apple are probably losing too much sleep over !

Can you get them on contract from the Apple shop or is that just for the phone itself?

I'm tempted to just get the 3G (not the S) as it's much cheaper and you're not missing out on many functions.

    Cheers

The 3G is still a great phone ,  the only thing better is the 3GS , so it's still a lovely phone  -  but it is the speed factor that would make me choose the 3GS over the 3G   -  there is a really noticable improvement in Speed and Graphics on the 3GS over the 3G on the current crop of Apps , I suspect the next generation of apps (the ones DESIGNED for the 3GS will look pretty sluggish on the 3G - But asI have said before  - "Sluggish" on the iPhone is probably 10 times faster than "fast" on most other phones

I managed to pick my 3 GS up from Bromley last week; the best bet is to ring around most stores as deliveries are always coming in.

I am with O2 although i was due an upgrade with them i managed to get it through the car phone warehouse.
