Does anyone here grown there own fruita and veg?

Is it worthwhile? does it save much money? I was thinking about starting to grow my own stuff like

Cabbage, Carrots, Spuds, Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomatoes, Onions, Turnips etc. . . strawberrys, grapes?

Maybe even stuff like

Pasta, Spaghetti, Cheese, Beans, or my own meat such as Beef or maybe Pork?

Anyone got any starting points?

To the OP, you would really need a greenhouse for stuff like tomatoes, cucumbers, etc, as the weather is rarely good enough here.

You need a lot of land to grow enough wheat even for a small amount of flour.  Not really pratical imo.

Veggies are a much simpler idea.

We grow a lot of veg at home also have an apple tree. We have recently bought 6 hens which are saving me a fortune in eggs!!
As said a greenhouse is a must - sometimes the veg works out and the times is doesn't they get fed to the chickens!! I go down the market every sunday and get a load of veg that they cant sell and i feed this to the chickens throughout the week (aswell as their own food)!

My old dear does it and the impression i get from my Dad is that its more hassle than its worth tho its useful for occupying her time while he sits in peace so he doesnt get nagged.

    I agree with Rasputin
I'm in my 3rd year of (very) small scale veggie growing and have found it is more of a hobby than a money-saving exercise. I have had more failures than successes really!

I hate anything to do with gardening but find growing veg easy as.

    I'm currently growing

    rocket leaves
    courgettes
    anya potatoes
    maris piper potatoes
    squash
    french beans
    chilli peppers
    green peppers
a few different varieties of tomato

I'm fortunate in that I have a south facing garden and good soil, so everything grows easily, the only problem I have is that the soil retains the water too much as there is a lot chalk and clay.
