Does anyone read "Muscle and Fitness" ?

I've came to the conclusion that it's a bit crap :)

Lots of "fancy" exercises, some claims which aren't backed up (no harvard referencing), full of adverts, full of babes (which is no bad thing of course) holding supplement bottles etc.

I particularly like the "get killer abs in 6 weeks" type of cover tasters. This month's edition is particularly bad... no more for me so I think I'll just stick to muscletalk forums...

for a fast selling magazine, on the front cover simply include

    abs article
    something about killer guns (arms)
    beach body

all achievable in a small space of time

muscle and fitness is miles above mens health and a few of the other more lifestyle orientated mags.

I may get a lot of sh!t for this (or even banned) but I'm tired of seeing ads that promise 30lbs of muscle in 6 weeks etc, etc, etc. I'm sure the board owners know this isn't possible. I know everyone has to make a living but there are a lot of newbs on this board who are easily influenced.

muscle and fitness is one of the better mags IMO (i only occasionally read them).

just take it with a pinch of salt, some articles are very good, recipes are good usually, some of the article are a little over hype though

this is where a bit of common sense needs to be applied in my opinion. Marketing is all around us, from cold calls, to car salesman to this forum - why would a mens fitness mag be any different? Read inbetween the lines, there is the odd good article.

One magazine i'd buy just for one writer is ironman - Bill Starr occasionally writes for them.

Ive also seen the odd JC santana article in M&F - so not everything in there is rubbish - just a fair bit. Probably too much to justify its price imo.

They always need to find something new that would sell very quickly and that would attract people who are new to bodybuilding. if it said " get the perfect body in 2 years", then new bodybuilders won 't buy it. They have competition so they need say stuff like that. Also they would only need about 5 mags to cover everything about weightlifting if they wanted to be honest with everyone.
I haven't even bought 1 of these magazines in my life. i only read them a bit in the shop sometimes. It's much better buying a weightlifting book that covers everything than buying these **** magazines.

Muscle & Fitness is appalling, and IMO not one jot better than Men's Health. They're just appalling in different ways. Both have terrible advice and make empty promises ("beach body in 6 weeks").

Muscle & Fiction tends toward the "get hyooooge!" mentality, advocating ludicrous routines with poor exercise selection and usually far too much work, while Men's Fitness tends towards the "cover model" mentality, incorporating but bastardising whatever the latest writer has spotted Louie Simmons writing about in a 10 year old article, advocating stupid so-called "advanced" exercises to make them look clever and demonstrating horrendous technique in the clean and snatch.

Flex is alright as long as you read it for entertainment rather than education. (See Mustafa Mohammed in the latest saying he sometimes eats 1kg of lamb cutlet at a sitting followed by 1kg of ice cream. Nice! )

I think most are pretty ****e tbh as they're more full of advertisements than interesting articles.
I've checked out The Beef and think its a good read as it has honest opinions about the bodybuilding scene (warts and all), even if it is 'sponsored' by CNP.
Another good thing about it is that its centred around british bodybuilding scene and always has updates on local shows.

Best part of M&F is the get hyooge programs with diets.... 3200 calories for a 200 pounder. Man, what do they do the rest of the day, sleep !?!?!?!? Even if I ever tried a cutting phase I'd need to eat more than that, and I'm barely 200!

never bother with such mags. as you say yourself the cover titles say it all with the 'get a beach body in 10 days' rofl if only it was that easy!

i sometimes resort to M&F when the store has ran out of bog roll.

I like mags for the contest reports - in this months Flex however i didn't see a pic of anyone outside the top 6. I mean Gary Strydoms on a comeback - where were the pics?

Good coverage of Dorian wanting to smack Kamali though - he wasn't worth it..

Didn't know Wayne Demilia tried to get Shawn Ray canned from Weider after his comments - but he managed to stop him from commentating on the fox channel - what a baby.

Pain is just weakness leaving the body..

same titles on all magazines every month, first time you look they look interesting, next time its like deja vous, glitch in the matrix and all that. By the 3rd month its like yawn ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and its back to WhatHiFi or Evo
