Does size really matter?

Not what you lot are probably thinking?!!
I am after a foam roller and they come in varying diameters and lengths....is a longer one better?

THey are hard foam tubes that you kind of roll your muscle on and it stretches it out. Kind of like a cheap deep tissue massage!!
I am a novice really but i used one on my outer thigh/quads and although it hurt like you wouldnt believe it felt great after!

It depends on which area you are rolling. Longer ones can be more convenient when doing big areas like quads and IT band, but doing smaller areas like your pecs then a shorter one (and a thinner one) will be a lot easier. This is why people sometimes opt for a hockey ball or something similar for smaller harder to reach areas.

... hardeness and durability matter more than circumference and length. PVC pipe is excellent

So given the choice, would you go for the longer length? I aint buying both !

And Iaink, i am too much of a wimp to go for the PVC pipe option, the foam roller i used made me scream like a girl when i rolled my IT band!

It's not the size of your foam roller that matters but what you do with it.

EVA would be more durable yes? Some foam rollers are rubbish and fall apart too quick

LOL Kenders, ingraining those motor patterns at an early age, nice!

I personally find the escape fitness one to be good enough, though I might look into PVC as I'm becoming quite tolerant of the 'big' areas you can use a roller for.

Hockey and tennis balls still have me wincing in pain though.

i went with one from pyhsiosupplies via ebay, blue 66fit one, its just the job, think its about 45cm long? Was looking at ones from escape fitness but they start out at about £20 then have to add vat, then they want a tenner+ for postage.....

Think i paid about £15 and its lasted a good while with daily use and im 107kg

Thats the ones i have been looking at, probably the 90 cm one though i dont know if it will make any difference from the smaller one.  May as well get the EVA one as its only a nicker more.

I first used the Escape Fitness one in my gym and then when it came time to buy I was wooed away by the price of the 66fit one. It's half the price but it's marginally softer than the EF one. Given the choice now I'd pay the extra and get the orange EF roller.

I went for the smaller one too. Happy with that choice. Much easier to store and I can still do everything with it that I want to.
