Doing weight training but seem to be getting weaker and less muscle mass reasons?

I'm wondering of the possible/most likely culprit, age, diet,or incorporating swimming back into my training regime.
An example is when I was 22 years old I used the same training programme and could flat bench 120KG,now I'm 33 years old and I did my maximum bench press to "test" myself and could only do 85KG flat bench......pathetic.
The variables that have stayed the same are the training programme, the ones that have changed are age, diet, and like I say I've started swimming aswell. Also is it true that if you do weights without sufficient protein intake you'll actually was your muscles away.

if your diet is the same but you've added in extra work - swimming in your case, then you will be burning more calories - you should compensate for this. - how much protein are you consuming per day?

In general I'll have a normal balanced diet with cooked meals and I have a whey protein shake every other day(pint glass).Would you recommend more ,or something specific to be included in the diet and things to exclude.Thanks.

Did you forget to mention consistency?

No one loses 35kg off their bench press unless they stop trianing for a period.

Age. Not at factor at this stage.

Swimming. The odd swimming session will do nothing to effect strenth or muscle. If you are doing a lot then increase your calorie intake to match the increased energy output.

Diet. You say it's balance so it should be fine. Eat more if you are losing weight. Protein intake is exaggerated by most.

    Body Weight - 83kg
    Bench - 145kg
    Squat - 190kg
    Clean & Jerk - 129kg
    Snatch - 98kg

You're claiming you've been training for 10 years and your bench has gone backwards?

I can't really believe it. It's pretty much impossible barring injury. I took a 2 year break off training and came back and lifted precisely the same weights.

So it sounds to me like you're not telling the whole story.

Thinking of it another couple of other factors that have changed within the past six months is that I now work permanent nights driving artics and generally only get 5 hours sleep per 24 hour period, and I'm experimenting with saw palmetto(a DHT blocker) claimed as a herbal remedy to reverse hair loss in some cases.

At age 51.  I am really struggling.  Everytime I get to the gym I am not up for it all.  I have been back two months but to no set program so that may be the problem.  Plus the fact that most off the time I train on an empty stomach as I have no appetite atm.

Have you looked into why you have no appetite? There a many supplements that can alleviate the effects of age.
What is your quality of sleep like?

Have you taken any time off training?

    Obvious things to suspect imo;
sleep (5hrs can't be adequate long term),
diet: imo yes too little protein will eventually lead to muscle/strength loss but hard to tell if this is your issue,
training: too much or too little will imo lead to a drop in strength.
Age? No way, I'm 44 and still feel as good as ever.

Qualilty of sleep is quite good thanks to Amy Triptylene.  Hopefully once back in work I can look at supps and maybe afford more quality of food.
