EDBANGER - PowerSUCking - FINAL PHOTO'S ADDED PAGE 8

FII'm attempting to do this shape up whilst prepping for a Powerlifting competition on Febuary 22nd.  I'm going to be competing in the GPC midland qualifier 90kg open class.  Now first off I have no illusions of placing in this competition as this is probably the most competetive category there is and the guys in the GPC are totally blowing my totals away.  I'm merely doing it for my own enjoyment of Powerlifting.

My original plan prior to December was to diet down to 75kg ish and then eat up and stay in the 82kg class for the competition.  I failed miserably at that with the lightest I managed to get to being 81kg just before christmas.  Christmas then happened and I scoffed on all the junk I could lay my hands on which has led me to a current weight of 84.4kg.  I have now accepted my fate in the 90kg class but have decided to enter the SUC and encourage some good eating whilst resculpting the abs I had after the last SUC I did.  This is going to be interesting in the fact I won't be sacrificing calories before the Feb comp as I don't want to compromise strength.

For this reason I don't really know if I'll be bulking or cutting.  I'm just looking to "Shape up".  What ever that may entail.

Here's me at 84.4kg.  I totally suck at posing.

Cheers for the kind words chaps.  I was actually a little disappointed with the fat gain I'd achieved over christmas when I first saw the pictures.  Now that I've accustomed to them though I don't suppose it's too bad.

One thing that I have been good at not just over christmas but for the past few years is consistancy with training.  I honestly don't think there's been a period of more than 5 days in which I haven't been training.  Not necessarily heavy all the time but always doing something.  I just need to find that consistancy with diet.  I'm getting there after learning a lot through the last two SUC's I did but it's just about keeping it applied.

Anyway.....I shall find time this evening to go through everyones journal to spread a little love.

In the meantime here was todays training.......

I was a little jaded from the night shift last night and the gym was practically empty.  I really wanted someone to come in just so I could chat in between sets to take my mind off the fatigue.  Fortunately though the session went incredibly well and I can't really complain.  I was working at triples today without knee wraps and I'm quite pleaed with where I'm at for this point.  I'll be going to the competition gym next week to get some practice in on the mono-lift and also wearing knee wraps against bare skin which is something I've not actually done yet.

    Squat
    5 x 60kg
    5 x 80kg
    5 x 100kg
    3 x 125kg
    5 x 3 - 150kg
    3 x 160kg
    3 x 170kg
    10 x 100kg
    10 x 60kg

    BB Lunges
    10 x 60kg
    2 x 10 - 80kg

    Leg Raises / Hyper extensions
    10 x 80kg / x 10 + 10kg
    10 x 85kg / x 10 + 10kg
    10 x 90kg / x 10 + 10kg

    Incline Walk - 6kph - 15 degree - 5 minutes

    Excellent squat session bud!

What kind of numbers are you looking at putting up in the comp?

    Squat 220kg(3) - Bench 200Kg - Deadlift 250kg - Strict Press 130kg - Push Press 140kg

Thank you all.  It's always been the case that if I go into the gym not in the mood, feeling tired and pants then I have some of my best sessions.  Alternatively when I go in feeling great and enthusiastic it's usually pants.  When I'm on my way feeling a bit crap I secretly get a little bit excited

I'm not entirely sure what I'll be hoping for at the comp to be honest.  I'm relatively new to using knee wraps and this will be my first build up and competition with them.  I worked up to a very comfortable 200kg after my heavy work 3 weeks ago so I suppose I'm hoping that maybe 220kg could be possible.  I'm thinking of opening at 200kg so I'll get that sorted again next week just to boost my confidence.  I'm totally making it up as I go along.  Bench wise I'd be happy with 130kg +.  I've done 140kg but not paused.  In fact I've not really done any heavy paused work in a while so I should probably think about doing that from next week too.  Deadlift is the big pile of poo lift.  I just can't get past 210kg.  Reooccuring injury with this lift means I don't really push it so I'l be happy with 210kg on the day.  I'll probably open at 200kg, go 210kg second for equal PB and then anything after that will be a bonus if I'm still standing.

Very modest numbers in the grand scheme of my weight class, age group and federation I'm lifting in but I'll be more than happy with those.  I'm hoping to have the Mrs video my efforts on the day so I'll make sure to edit and put it up in here for all to see.

Do you pull conventional or sumo with deadlift? Maybe try a different stance to see if that helps?

I pull conventional.  I did swap to Sumo for a few weeks to see if it would make much of a difference but I didn't get on with it at all.  It did use to frustrate me but I'm not that bothered anymore.  I've accepted that fact I'll never be at the worlds

Short and easy core session today with a dash of cardio for good measure......

    Evil 8 Barbell Complex - 6 x 6 - 24kg

Dead bugs / Plank / Roman twists 8kg
    3 x 20 / 3 x 1 minute / 3 x 20

    Incline Walk - 6kph - 15 degree - 15 minutes

    Hamstring & Glute stretches

I've got a touch of sciatic pain going on at the moment at the top of my left glute.  I'm just going to continue to stretch and ignore it as best as possible.  Standard bloke approach with added stretching.
