Early pre contest diets??

I'm a very big fan of older bodybuilders eg (arnie, franko,ed corney) and from what i have read the basicly lived on meat, eggs and plenty of water and very little carbs at all! i am very tempted to give this a go! is this basicly a stupid idea?! even arnie admitted that bodybuilders didnt know much about nutrition back then. but surely if you keep protein intake high and very low carbs with plenty of water this should be ok??

again am just trying to learn the basics of nuttion so am not going to pretend i know that much. so i would appreciate any advice of people abit more knowldgeable then me!

Cheers

    How little is very little?

I don't think very many people can comfortably get away with 'very little' carbohydrates. If it's a pre-contest diet then perhaps.. but not as a proper diet. Carbohydrates play a very big role in the world of nutrition. But the body is quite efficient at adapting as best it could with what it has...

So are you asking about pre contest diets or diets you 'live' on?

Vince Gironda used a diet many moons ago that utilised carb restriction and refeed every fourth day.

He would have his athletes consume no carbs just meat and eggs for 3 days straight and every fourth day have a refeed.

His athletes were so ripped that in contests they were deemed to be "freaky" and over the top with regards to definition.

Google maximum definition diet. Iirc thats what it was called.
