Ebay sellers

Do any of you have an item you sell where you have something of a niche?

I have been selling stuff for the last few months and am doing OK with them, but now my feedback is growing I'm thinking someone will start calculating what I am making and will try and sell the same product.

I'm thinking of starting a new account and selling the same product with less feedback. Has anyone done similar or do you have any advice for keeping the competition off?

I'm no ebay expert mate, but competition is a healthy part of business. It's to be expected.

make your listings private so no-one can contact your bidders etc and wont be able to look back on what you sold or how much for

I do it because I can,
I can because I want to,
I want to because you said I couldn't

Thanks guys. I'm of the Bill Gates school of thought. I don't want any competition. I think I'll just get another ID then.

Ive got an eBay shop to make a little money on the side. I sell sinks, taps, waste disposers and wine cellars. Although the ceramic sinks sell the best by far. My tip and what im doing is sell at a low price, I only make 15%GP after paypal and ebay charges but as you put more money through the company you buy from you can negotiate for a discounted rate. I know where I buy from, they discount up to 40% for thier biggest customers. I should qualify for 10% by next month with is an extra £20 per sale.

Crap advice, when I see this from a seller my one and only though is SCAM ARTIST, and I look else where.

If I see a seller who has a lot of feedback, and has clearly got himself a good little business going, my confidence in that seller is sky high

Same here, I would just assume they were trying to hide something and wouldnt take the risk unless the item was very cheap.

You can't sell anything with private feedback anymore anyway. If you have private feedback you need to make it public before you can list an item

Surely set up loads of accounts, selling the same thing and appear to make the value seem good (let someone compare your prodct with another of yours?)

    Probably illegal lol^

I think youve got his advise mixed up. He doesnt mean have your feedback private, (which you now cannot if you want to sell an item), he means when selling, hide the identity of the bidder, which ebay have also implemented automatically on bids that go over £100.
    So it was good advise.

But the way he put it the item on sale would still end up private. Like people said above, when you can't see what the item is you don't have much confidence. I used the same logic just the other day.

I had thought of that Greenranger. Go into competition with myself so people think it is cut throat when it isn't.

The only way to explain what I meant is by showing you... I chose an item which would qualify for a private listing for obvious reasons...

    Check it out...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Penis-Enlarger-Enlargement-Stretcher-Wear-Discreetly_W0QQitemZ110137081601QQihZ001QQcategoryZ1277QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Then if you look at sellers feedback you'd notice it says PRIVATE instead of being able to click and see what he has sold therefore making it a private and confidential sale...

Creating additional accounts is illegal and if they find out you could possibly face account suspension and would put you out of business.

I do it because I can,
I can because I want to,
I want to because you said I couldn't
