Enough remakes already...

Now they're remaking Total Recall, with Colin Farrell in the Arnie role... does this film really need to be remade? The original still plays pretty well to me.

It's getting to a point when it's a genuine surprise to find a film that isn't a sequel or a remake. Even films you think are original usually turn out to be remakes of an Asian film.

I boo you, Hollywood. Boo.

what an odd film to remake, i agree its good movie but was it really that much of a blockbuster that they expect to make alot of money from it...?

And colin farrell in the arnie role, no one could play that other than arnie.

Are the writers these days not as talented? or is it genuinely about leaching onto the success of an old movie, and just being lazy?

    I hate remakes...

By the way, are they still making ghostbusters 3, same cast and stuff it will be a sequel rather than a remake.

    I boo you, Hollywood. Boo.

I second that. Boo @ Hollywood.
They will crumble soon, once they hear of MT's disapproval.

edit: after a quick google, they are making a film based on Dick's We Can Remember It For You, Wholesale, not a remake of Total Recall, as such.

you are joking, i only watched it again recently and thought it still stood the test of time.
It seems Hollywood are running out of original ideas and go for the easy option.
If they ever remake Back to The Future i will go mental.

Movie investors are not happy to back projects like they were 5-10 years+ ago. They'll throw money at remakes and sequels of films that have been successful as it's less risk for them.

Getting backing for new projects is proving very difficult. Kevin Smith struggled to raise the £8m (which is a very low budget) for his upcoming and highly anticipated film Red State. So unfortunately, we'll see lots of remakes and sequels of established franchises. It's nothing to do with entertainment, everything to do with money.

Yes, but Kevin Smith made Gigli, so there is good reason for that! I do think you're right in general though, it's just a shame that they think we'd rather watch Transformers 9 than take a punt on an original screenplay.

Just saw a trailer for Fast & Furious 5!!!

Why bother making new films when they can just remake old ones or reshoot an existing one with a slight twist on the storyline and call it the next one in the series (** cough** Police Academy 7 anyone )

Plans are already on teh way to remake Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Flash so they can make a Justice League movie to compete with the Avengers movie.

No two more Avatar films....(watching the first one back again..I actually think it was utter sh!t story wise...dont care how much FX he throws into it)

BUt their has been talk that Ridley Scott has written two screens for an Alien sequel...not a remake...that I would be interested in.
