Fed up of people parking on my drive

OK it's not a drive, it's my designated parking space for my flat but it is as good as a drive.

I got back home today and my space had another car occupying it. No kidding there are three VP spaces (visitor parking) next to my space which are EMPTY!! My space is clearly numbered yet still some tool has parked in it.

Would I park on their drive? NO! Do most people go around parking on other people's drive? NO!

Just because it's a space for a flat and not a house should make no difference!

It's happened before and it is really starting to get on my wick. Is it ignorance, arrogance or just stupidity?

Just park in the VP space and chill out.

I have. And I am chilled out. But when it keeps happening it does take the p1ss to be fair. Would you not mind if someone kept parking on your drive?

I would be a bit p*ssed off TBH.
Whats the legal situation about designated parking spaces?
If it was a private drive (Your property) would it make any difference? I know i own my drive.
    I don't know.

I don't know the legal situation TBH and as it's rented property and it's a flat I don't know if the landlord physically owns the space or not.

Great suggestions above and they do sound tempting but I don't want to get petty.

Hopefully it won't happen too much but I wish people would have more respect/common sense!

Block them in so you find out who it is and have a good rant or politely leave a note. I agree this is highly irritating!

People will park where they like. you can ask nicely, put up signs, beg them not till you are blue in the face and they'll ignore you and  continue to take the piss.

...But the minute you clamp, fine or exercise any kind of enforcement they'll pretend YOU are the unreasonable one and cry victim.

I realise there are some terrible clamping companies out there, but I must admit, done ethically, the idea of being a clamper appeals to me,  I reckon I'd really relish that moment when the penny drops and the idiot realises that the same rules DO apply to them, and it'll cost them £££ for the lesson.

either they are not very observant / don't read signs or selfish / disrespectful / not bothered about doing the right thing, what ever you want to call it. Plenty of both types of people about.

i saw a tit for tat once in my last area... allocated spaces.

one guy parked in my space, i knocked doors until i found the culprit, politely asked them not to do so again, problem solved.
my neighbour saw them park in their space the next week and let all their tyres down.
next day my neighbours car was keyed and tyres let down

i go for option 1 all the time as i haven't got the time for aggro, it only ends up in drama if you launch at their car.
Blocking it in is an option, non destructive form of protest... but you have to be hard faced when you go out and move your car when they are ready to rage

Yeah I can imagine a little tit for tat can soon escalate and potentially lead to far more aggro in the long run. I went for the gentle approach of leaving a note on his/her windscreen. It's gone now so hopefully won't happen again but won't bet on it!

i hate notes on my windscreen lol... just door knock, face to face time is priceless for disputes and averting aggro.

I had one note telling me not to park in front of his house as it was his space...not allocated parking, public road.
I knocked on his door and told him to do one much to his displeasure, what is it with people thinking they own public road?

i used to live on a road with a school at the end and did, on a couple of occasions, have someone park up on our shared driveway (shared between 2 semi-detached houses) by the same person. the first time he blocked me on the drive and made me late for work and the 2nd time (about 3 weeks later) my car was on the road in front of the house, i saw the car there again, knocked on next door and we both moved our cars to cover the drive (neighbour wasn't going anywhere for the day and i was off work) and we blocked the car on the driveway for the day.

the police were called but they just told the driver he shouldn't be trespassing on private property. his car stayed on my driveway until he collected it after work at half 6.

suffice to say, he's parked elsewhere

we've had this aswell from our next door but 2 neighbour. he insists on parking outside his house and will, if he's home when the school is emptying, bang on women's car windows to tell them to move. he did it to my dad's now ex-girlfriend and really **** her up, so between me and my dad (taking it in turns), we parked outside his house for 5 weeks solid (my dad rides his motorbike to work) and after week 2 (we were going to move dad's car that night) matey comes banging on the door demanding his car be moved. as my dad told him where to go and close the door, he blocks the door. i've never heard my dad turn like he did (he's normally very calm) and the situation resolved itself without hands being thrown (matey backs down and my dad's car stays put for another 3 weeks).

we live on a road with some complete whoppers.

bear with it for now, then when winter arrives dump snow all over their car, or even better, find out where they live and bury their front door in the white stuff. sound familiar?
