Fed up with my shoulders

Hi Guys and girls,

Been having problems training my shoulders they don't seem to be growing ....much I've been at it for 3 years!

My diet is OK and the rest of my body is growing ie chest, legs arms etc. After reading a couple of posts on shoulders i get the feeling I'm doing too much, yet if i do less i don't feel I've had a good work out.

3 x sets db press heavy
3 x sets BB press heavy
3 x sets front db raise
3 x sets side lateral raises
3 x sets rear lateral raise lying on a bench or reverse pecdec flys
3 x db shrugs or upright rows.

Where am i going wrong my technique in the exercises is strict yet my muscles don't burn or ache like when i train chest or lats.

Please help all i need is the shoulders

how many reps on these sets?

i would drop the front raises and put every thing you have into the lateral side raises
and try doing hevyer weight with abit of swing even and go untill it burns like hell

    Probably doing too much imo.
I definately wouldn't want to do db and bb press in the same session.

All i do at the mo is military press, side db laterals and db shrugs.

Personally I think this testicle tenderness is due to my recent return to AM cardio. I do it naked on a recumbent bike and my gonads tend to flop about.

thats a hefty shoulder workout, overtrained delts

    barbell military press
    seated db press
    side raises

maybe a rear delt exercise if your not doing rowing exercises on back day

    3-4 sets of 6-8...

Rear delts - yes include these, bent ofver lats, rows to chin etc.

    Also:

    Overhead squats.

If only someone had written an article about the possible issues that might slow shoulder growth?!

personally i'd go for something like this

3 x 8 sets db press heavy with twist
4 x 6 sets BB press heavy as poss with same weight for all reps.
3 x8 db shrugs (if needed)
2 x 12 - 15 side lat raise for flush.... Not much of a building exercise But gives a good bit of shaping

I have the same, although I wouldn't worry too much about not getting a burn, it's not a 100% guarantee that you're growing. Try a drop set on the raises or one of the presses.

The front raises are probably overkill if you're doing two presses, otherwise routine looks ok to me.

    Thanks for the replys people.

    Ok Jamesw
i go for 10 reps per set, sometimes i dont hit 10 on the last set as i'm lifting as heavy as possible. Also i increase the weight in each set. Ie db press set one 30k set 2 34kg set 3 38kg.

Since you wouldn't do db and bb in the same session would you train shoulders more than once a week? i only train them once.

    MMA guy
Do you think its worth doing rear delts with back? I've noticed many people in my gym seem to neglect this area?

No, i only train each muscle (directly) once a week. I just meant that i think you should do one or the other. I do bb for 10/12 weeks then switch to db for 10/12 weeks.

Dont forget shoulders get hit on chest day aswell.

Its possible that your back is underdevloped which is giving the illusion you shoulders are worse than they look

I do wide grip chins. I've never found pullups to be as effective - more bicep involved

I do wide grip pull ups on back day also pull downs. Oh and i too feel my bicep kicking in.

Whats the difference between the pull ups and chins?? Sorry for my ignorance.

Pull ups are palms facing away from you, chins are palms facing you.

Right i'll try switching from wide grip pull ups to chins and give that a go for 3-4 months. I didn't think it would make much of a difference. Cheers guys.
