Filter needles and glass ampules

How many of you use a filter needle after breaking an ampule? If you don’t, you might want to consider it… not to be an alarmist or anything, but Im concerned for everyones well being. When you break an ampule, you place very small shards of glass into the ampule. The shards of glass can be as small as 10 micrometers. When you draw and inject your medication, you deposit these shards into your injection site. These shards of glass often carry bacteria. This can cause all sorts of bad things to happen, from abscesses and infections, to inflammation and granuloma formation. I'm sure many of you have been doing this for years without any problems, but why take a chance if the alternative isnt really much of a hastle?

Filter needles are fairly inexpensive. I found a box of 100 19-gauge 1.5” needles with a 5-micron filter (recommended) for $35.00. You should be able to get them discreetly through mail order.

You can find out a lot more by going to google and searching for the key words: filter needle ampule

Pre-med student. Which means I know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to be useful.

No! Sorry! Not what I ment. After loading the syringe, you shoud swap needles and then inject the medicine. Sorry.

    What is granuloma formation?

A granuloma forms when the immune system detects a foreign body and tries to remove the invader. The first thing it does is attack the invader (with macrophages, lymphocytes... etc). Then it either encapsulates it with new fiberous tissue growth (epithelial cells) or tries to transport it away via the lymphatic system. Lastly the body can reject and migrate the invader (pushes the invader to the surface of the skin). This explination is pretty watered down, if your interested you can read more about it on the reference links posted.

I'm just saying as a precautionary measure its not a bad idea. The needles arn't very expensive, and might save you a headache in the future. Most of the reports I've read deal with intravenous deposits of glass, which is much more severe. Putting a little glass in your ass isnt a great idea, but wont kill you. The abscesses, infections, inflammation and granuloma formation are worst case scenarios. General effects would probably be more like muscle soreness, tenderness, rash or redness. Things you might experience after any injection. But, if a .35 cent needle keeps you from getting an infection that could put you off from training for a few days...

    Just some thoughts.

yep its worth considering bro, though most of us draw with a 21 g then swap to a 23g, you would need to pull it up through the 21 and then get it back through the 23 into your body.

the sharp end of the 21's are angled, which means that the very bottom of the amp always has deposits of oil and or any heavier material left in it and your unable to draw it.

but thanks for the info, worth reading for sure.

Ah I see, thanks for the watered down explanation (the one I understand) and the links (like Russian)
