Finally got the Thunder Rolling

I came home today and was pleasantly surprised to see that my ironmind order had arrived. I was most excited about the Rolling Thunder and boy did it turn out to be a beast.

So I decided to test it out at the gym and didn't do too badly and maxed out at 140lbs just after doing heavy romanian deadlifts. I just did 4 sets of timed holds ranging from 15-5seconds, is that alright?

My other purchases were the COC #2 and the Mastery of Hand Strength. I was a little disappointed that i couldn't fully shut the gripper, was close though (4mm right hand and about 12mm left). Any advice on how to go about safely increasing my crushing grip strength? I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to close it within a month but don't want to strain or injure my joints.

thanks for your help

60kg RT first time is v.good mate. also, i am abot 1mm away from shutting the CoC#2 myself. i found that the best way to improve your crushing strength, is to use it at very most once a week, as a sort of test. work on heavy plate curls, plate pinching and static holds... you'll have sut it in 3-6weeks i reckon.

colossal, wicked stuff! RT is a beast! I dont train regurlarly with it at the moment, just max out once a month or so

dont be disappointed that you couldn't close #2 out of the box mate - if you had, there would have been quite a few bro's on this board who would hate your guts forever for that, lol!

Many things are in your favour with #2:
    - You will learn to position the gripper better as you go along
    - the gripper will loosen up, some say that until about 50 closes the gripper will get easier then it stays the same even if you did 1000's of closes with it. Don't know how accurate that is, but they call it "seasoning" to force shut the gripper 50 times and then start using it.
    - you obviously get stronger, especially that last closing part which is an element of hand strength which we rarely use in the gym or real life situations.

I'd train grippers whenever your grip feels up to it - it might not be more than once a week if you do all things robert does. I'd also do negatives, by force shutting it and fighting tooth and nail to hold it as closed as possible. If you have #1 then strapholds would be good.

Thanks for the kind words and advice guys... well, I was able to close the #2 with the right hand just once as of a few minutes ago... so pretty happy with that ... the left still has a long way to go but i'll keep at it probably once every day or two

it's interesting to know that the spring loosens up afte 50 closes and stays at that tension throughout the gripper's life... strap holds are probably going to be by next investment so i'm just looking around for old bagpacks and stuff

and by the way vegan Steve Jeck is an animal... saw him doing some incredible stuff in Brookfield's book... i wouldn't wanna be shaking that man's hand [:O]

too right. There seems to be quite a few people whos hands shouldn't be shaked, luckily if you lurk on the grip boards long enough you know most of them by name!
