First Time Using Sunbed (Solarium)

Well today was my first time using a sun bed and straight away i was put in a good mood, being asked if im getting ready for a comp .

After a little small talk about possible risks and telling me that i have the ideal skin type to tan and people who work out tan better the lady walked me into a sunbed and startd me off on one of the stronger ones for 5 minutes.

Telling me to turn over after 3 mins for circulation reasons. once finished i felt slightly browner but nothing really noticible.

She then told me that at this early stage she recommends coming 3 times a week to build a good base tan, i was a little skeptical as i hear many other members hear saying they go once a week so just wondering whether you think she is telling the truth or drain me for every cent im worth.

PS reason for using sunbed is rid myself of spottyness and also build up a good tan

I consider 3 times a week about right.

....although it will vary from person to person due to different skin types. Skin type will also effect how long you go on for in one session as well.

Again, it will vary from person to person.

I find once a week will reduce the fading time, but it won't fully maintain it. For me twice a week at 12-15 minutes a go would probably maintain it.

I fyou want your tan to maintain then go on once a week and every day when you get ou the shower use loads of johnsons baby oil. It is the best ive found at maintaining the tan.

3 times a week sounds ok but ensure that you use an accelerator or at least moisturise very well about half hour before or immediately before your session. (moisturised skin tans sooo much easier than dry skin).

I use an accelerator by Australian gold which costs 40 quid per bottle. It gives the best results ive ever had. Makes you initially go a slight red colour but develops to a great brown after about 24 hours.

Not sure, but it can certainly work out quite pricey if you go a few times and pay per session.

Much better off buying a block of minutes.

My local place has been doing £29.99 for 1 month unlimited use!

How dangerous for your health is using sunbeds? The way I look at it is I dont smoke or take rec. drugs and I drink very rarely so so I think 10mins on a sunbed cant be that bad. What do you think?

These are not strictly before and after shots (just taken from My Journal), but one shows my normal colour and the other shows my colour from using sunbeds.

    Normal colour

    Colour from sunbed use

<EDIT: Just to clarify, neither of these are current pictures. They're simply examples of me with and without sunbed use>

The article in my link a few posts above gives a good insight into it.

Personally i feel it's like many things, in moderation it's not too bad.

people who work out tan better

    What baloney!

I would say 3 times a week is ideal for you, then maybe drop to 1-2 times a week to maintain once you've got a good colour.

I'd be interested to know that.

Was out in the sun yesterday for about 30 mins and got a pink nose!

Not sure I would survive a sun bed.
