Flax Oil - caps or oil?

What should I go for - does it matter? Will I recieve less of the benefits if I take flax in caps form?

I used to walk into a room full of people & wonder if they liked me..... Now I look around & wonder if I like them

You'd need quite a few caps. I'd personally go for the seeds.

What about the 'one a day capsules' - aren't they any good?

Only if they're the biggest capsules you've ever seen! Something in the region of 20-30g, now that would be hard to swallow...

well with my diet i add 10ml to my protein shake before bed as the fat helps slow down the protein absorbtion.

The amount you add depends on you nutrition needs so i can't tell you how much you need, but for me 10ml added to the shake is perfect for me.

i measure with a teaspoon which is about 5ml so two of them, then i lick the teaspoon....yummy! so a bottle of flax last 50 days for me

50 days seems a long time to stretch out a bottle of flax oil - usually 3 weeks to a month, with proper storage, or you're looking at losing quality/taste. It's predominantly omega 3's, which are too reactive to store longterm.

oil goes rancid even if stored in the fridge within about 4-6weeks. Seeds can be ground as required and sprinkled onto anything like cereal, salads, put in shakes and are as cheap as chips.. .urrr I mean flaxseeds

it is not as if i am trying to make my bottle of flaxseed oil last as long as possible it just works out that way with my diet. As for Longevity of the oil the BEST BEFORE DATE on the bottle is 02/2007......so it should last 50 days!!??

That's a totally unrealistic best before date - perhaps if kept frozen, but certainly not otherwise (unless it's got a ridiculous amount of Vit E in it) Flax oil goes off quick and loses a lot of its benefits. Drinking rancid oil won't be good for your health!

If it tastes rank, that's a strong indicator that the oil hasn't been kept properly. It should be slightly nutty and palatable, not vile.

I think the taste of flax oil is pretty grim TBH. Can anyone suggest ways to disguise the taste?

What do you do with the seeds? Can you eat a spoon full of them and wash them down with water?

    Are they like lin seeds?

    What is the purpose?

    They are linseeds...same thing

Provide fibre, lignans, source of fats, etc.

Stick it in a shake, it makes it go well creamy. Put it in soup, you can't taste it at all. Soak it into a jacket potato instead of butter/marg, lovely - works very well with well drained tuna and some lemon. Have a shot then bite a chunk of pineapple. Mix it in yoghurt/applesauce/orange juice. Put it in chilli/curry/anything with a sauce. Mix 50/50 with a salad dressing you like. Make your own salad dressing with some garlic, onion salt, pepper, mustard, herbs, etc. Whip it up with angel delight (have to be a little careful with this one, can go wrong easily). Avoid trying to make jelly with it.

The problem may just be the flax you're getting, FMD do one, made the same way as Udos, very fresh tasting and a lot nicer than anything I've tried at trade shows. Let me know if you want to find a local stockist, or you can grab it from our site.

Has anyone every tried bitting into a flax capsule? Did that once to see just how fresh the flax actually was, nearly threw up...

Does H&B store their flax seed oil in the fridge? Surely they should if the advice is that it lasts longings and maintains it's quality.
