Solid work as always.

I imagine you have an extensive collection of CD's, and your own mixed ones etc.

Thoughts on Prince? I can't say I know much of his work, so if you can highlight any lesser known gems for me I'd me interested.

Thanks Mr. Wolf, feeling the effects today though. My legs session will now be tomorrow when I've recouped some spent energy (hopefully).

Almost 7000 albums in various shapes and forms mate.
Lately I've been slimming down my collection as I transferred everything to MP3 a while back and it's getting hard for me to find stuff. Just wish I'd kept a lot of my vinyl records which I sold years ago. I now have a small box of around 30 albums and maybe 50 singles, just personal favourites and some rarities, that's it. When I get my financial situ sorted I intend to get myself a player again. The first album I will buy again has got to be Dark Side of the Moon. What else?

I liked Prince, I respected his place in the scene as a brilliant musician, performer etc but he wasn't right at the top of my list. I have maybe six albums.
Aside from the obvious Purple Rain classics and Sign O' The Times era, I reckon my favourite song would be this one, "Peach" from 1993. Not a massive hit but more up my street as it's more of a rock track than dance-based. It's hardly played very much these days but you'll probably remember it:

ohhhhhh!!

You know what I read that as incline bench and shat a brick. Leg press makes much more sense....I thought he was a super hero for a brief moment.

Lol! A momentary lapse of reason there, Dronukbjj. Pay attention lad
Okay, so today it's LEGS.....

A day later than expected and today’s session was one of those where everything seemed to click just right. Nice, quiet gym with no problem getting onto the kit and ending up with one of those perfect sessions which happen once in a blue moon. Loads of reps, loads of weight, loads of volume…

Thursday 28/4/16 – Legs (heavy):

1. Incline LEG press:
15x150 warm-up
10x200 – 2 sets
8x250 – 2 sets
6x300 – 2 sets
6x350
6x380
7x400 PB
15x200 ½-way Glute press – 4 sets
*Never before have I managed seven full reps at 400kgs on this leg press. I believe it was a good 18 months ago when I last attempted the 400 milestone and just for 2 reps then I believe. Quads are rocketing up right now and at fifty-b’stard-one I should really know better than to instil a probable cardiac arrest, but what the Hell, it feels fantastic!

2. Hack squat:
8x150 – 2 sets
5x200 – 2 sets
4x230 – 2 sets PB
*Another PB. I found the hack squat almost a doddle after all that pressing. The back rest certainly helps. All is ticketty-boo.

3. Seated (horizontal) press:
12x200 stack – 4 sets
*Upped the reps and rested just 2-3 breaths between sets. Killed me afterwards though and my legs virtually gave way when I ‘jumped’ off the machine.

4. Extensions:
8x80
8x90
6x100 stack – 5 sets
25x50 high reps
15x60 high reps
*High reps at that weight is a big advance but I coped with it pretty well.

5. Seated reverse leg curl:
6x75
6x80
4x85
4x90
3x95
3x100 stack =PB
25x35 high reps
15x45 high reps
*Equalled my PB of last week on the full stack.

6. Good girls:
20x60 – 2 sets

7. Bad girls:
15x60 – 2 sets

8. Ab crunches:
50x45
20x55
*Note I’ve added 5kgs to each of these high rep finishes from now on.

Time: 1hr. 20mins.

Very, very pleased with today’s session, quads looking full and firm right now and easily in good stead for my hols, much faster than I thought.

Tried a pre-workout for the first time ever (normally I just have a peanut butter sandwich and some jelly babies). The GoNutrition ‘Volt’ definitely gave me a kick and I was off at it big time.

Dunno about tomorrow yet as the cycling Tour De Yorkshire begins in Beverley which is about four miles from where I live, so the roads will be rammed. We shall see.

Thanks for reading chaps, I’ll get around to your journals overnight.

Cheers Dave Of all body groups, my legs have been constantly in good nick. Many years of road racing and hill cycling aeons ago laid the foundations for that. Also buggered my back up but you can't have it all ways.

I'm on this mission to 'maintain', i.e stay in relatively good shape and keep some form utilising mid-range weight, but you can never tell us guys not to keep pushing for those PB's I guess, always have to go for it. Donkey and the carrot.

Re: Floydy: Training for Tenerife 2016/04/30 19:19:18 (permalink)
Just thinking today that for some unexplained reason I’m noticing my legs becoming bigger at such a rate I haven’t experienced before since I’ve been training, nigh on 30 years now. I can’t understand it but it seems the amount of rest (3-4 days) between each session is exactly right, coupled with the scenario of “not being scared” of going for a max when I think I’m beat and dead to the world; there’s always a little more ‘spunk’ left in me. And it’s paying dividends, I’ve never looked so full in the quads, ever.

Now all I need to do is somehow transfer this method - or whatever it is that is truly working – to my upper body, and I’ll be on top of the world. Or at least a happy old Hector.

So tomorrow I’ll be trying out all sorts of different ways and wherefores to make those similar gains to my chest and arms. Nothing to lose is there?
