Floydy: Fifty. Fit. Forever.

Hi. As the title suggests, I turned 50 last October and I have no intention to stop training just yet. A little bit about myself and my training history:

I began working out in my late teens. I'm 6'3" but was around 11 stone aged 18 so I stepped things up training-wise to gain some weight as I joined the RAF in my early 20's. I began bodybuilding after a few months in the forces and continued for most of the 1990's, finally quitting seriously when I got married and became a little more 'relaxed'. I have continued to train about 4 times a week, my weight keeping a steady 16 stones with decent-to-muscular form, plus inevitable middle-aged belly podge. I avoid deadlifts, most OHP’s and squats as my back is not what it was and I improvise with other exercises (although I have found new interest in a hack squat with a backrest), plus I have a bad right shoulder also which hinders some of my chest work, but ho hum.

I'm finding myself changing my training programme more often than I used to and see this as a necessity to help with my personal motivation and to keep the body alert. I’ve had some ups and downs with my training which are usually connected with me working a permanent night shift but I do my best and I do occasionally make some gains in size and strength. I’m pretty pleased with my progress since turning 50 and there’s no stopping this old boy yet.
Please see my profile page for more info. I hope you enjoy the journal.

Re: Floydy: Not Finished at Fifty 2014/12/11 16:35:38 (permalink)
Hi.
As briefly mentioned in my opening post, I'm "between routines" atm as it's the silly season with everything up in the air and sticking to a set pattern isn't possible for the next three weeks or so. Tiding things over, I'm doing a few workouts here and there with a varying sets/reps structure when time allows.

I work a permanent night shift which saps my energy somewhat during the week as there's never enough time to fit everything in - training or otherwise - so the heavy strength routines are usually confined to the weekends where I can focus on a proper workout. having said that, today's session featuring reverse sets wasn't that bad...

Thursday 11/12/14. Chest+Tri's:

1. Smith press, flat bench:
20x25kg warm-up
12x40kg
10x50kg
8x60kg
6x70kg - 3 sets
10x40kg - 60deg incline - 3 sets
7x50kg - 60deg incline - fail

2. Incline chest press, machine:
12x45kg - 2 sets
10x50kg - 2 sets
8x60kg - 2 sets
5x70kg - fail

3. Triceps pulldown, against backrest, above head to waist:
20x25kg
18x30kg
15x35kg
12x40kg
10x45kg
5x50kg - full stack - fail

4. Chest press, machine:
20x70kg
12x80kg
8x85kg
6x90kg
6x95kg
6x100kg
4x105kg - fail

5. Rope pulldown, front, chest to waist:
10x25kg - 4 sets
6x30kg - 2 sets
5x35kg - fail

Time taken 1hr. 5mins.

Quite happy with that, triceps especially pumped. Tomorrow I'll be doing some leg work, biceps and back.

Thanks for reading :)

I can't get my avatar sorted out. Normally there's an option "Choose File", but it just asks for a URL. I don't have a URL from a photo taken with my phone.
Also, there are no smilies on here that I can see, or even a 'like' icon.... (confused smiley).

Tried it on the PC also but still can't do it. Can't mess about with host sites and what not just to post a pic all the time. Not to worry.

Well read with interest mate.

Thanks mate.
This is odd. Just noticed the smilies option and a toolbar on my work PC and I'm wondering if I'm logged onto a different version on my home PC? No wonder I can't get my avi sorted out!? :)
