Hey chap, sounds like a plan and half with the concert and birthday sesh!

I struggle with dips at the end of a workout mate, sometimes best to start off with them I find and chins also.

When I first started the gym many moons ago I struggled with chins badly!

I guy I had a chat with explained a lot of tall and heavy people will struggle with them compared to small light fellas

Anyway his advice, everytime you walk past the bar do just one pull up, which I managed easily enough by the end of that session if done 6 pull ups, by the end of the week I’d done 40, do you see where this is goin bud?

Worth a try any way mate, one seems rubbish but when you calculate them over the week they all add up!

Anyway mate if I don’t check in, have a good birthday pal

You're dead right with all this pal, I'll be starting off iwth both pull-ups and dips from now on starting Monday.
Just talking to a PT today about it who is a 'specialist' in Callenetics, and he swears by them for core strength especially

Re: Floydy: Keeping fit after fifty 2017/10/12 11:04:00 (permalink)
Very unexpectedly I found myself at a loose end this morning, so with plenty of time to get myself sorted out for this afternoon’s train I managed a quick near-hour at the gym. With no plans other than seeing where my feet ended up lead me to, I did a bit of a free-for-all…

Thursday 12/10/17

Shoulder press:
10x40
10x60
5x80
3x95
3x105
20x40
*Couldn’t quite believe this. The warm-up on the 40 felt stupidly light and so in fact did the 60 straight after. I thought this could lead to something , so I wasted no time with small increments and added another 20, then a further 15 to reach the 95 and still not feeling especially taxed. It’s ages since I went for heavy weight on the shoulder press, or most things for that matter as I’m basically keeping my fitness levels up, but the 100 seemed a nice goal but I decided to take a gamble and miss out that benchmark in case I couldn’t go even further. Well, I had a stab at 105 and smashed that, which is only 2.5kgs off my PB from well over a year ago and just pushed up three reps. Then I got silly by adding another 5, which was just too foolhardy and only got half way up. Shouting many obscenities at myself, I took a minute a tried again. Nope. Screaming and threatening my triceps, I still couldn’t budge any more than a few inches. Bollox 2 it. But nevertheless I did feel somewhat contented at passing that old 100 mark after such a long time away from these. There’s still time…

Smith push press, 15° bench incline:
20x20 norm grip
20x20 wide grip
10x20 c/g
*Not much weight but all 50 reps were done continuously, moving my hand grip whilst the bar was in motion. The beauty of the Smith.

The ‘Floydy’ Press:
31x50
22x50
22x50
18x50
7x50
*My invention For those not in the know, it’s a flat bench with one 50kg DB. Lie down, interlock hands underneath one of the inner ends and simply push up and down; The Floydy Press.
I aim for 100 accumulative reps doing this exercise (which pumps the triceps more than any other exercise I do), trying to reach the target in four sets. Today it took 5, probably because my arms were already shot after the shoulder and push pressing.

Running out of time, so very swiftly:

E-Z preacher, low-pull, c/g:
20x30 high reps

Seated sled(©Brett) leg press:
50x150

Ab crunch:
50x40

Time: 50 mins.

All sorted. Gotta go!
Thanks for reading

Nice pressing mate!

And no I haven't copyrighted the sled leg press lol. That's just the proper name it comes under on exrx.

Excellent resource if you're ever looking for ideas BTW.

Thanks Dave. Always in the triceps mate. For some reason I hardly ever feel the pump in my chest for whatever reason. Always been like that

Cheers Brett Just joking with the copyright thing buddy You'll notice I've started to incorporate the word 'sled' into the title from now on as it's a logical description
Yep, your link shows the perfect stance for this machine, although I can't quite get that close to the foot platform these days!

Re: Floydy: Keeping fit after fifty 2017/10/15 12:09:43 (permalink)
Having spent a great weekend seeing the two concerts in Leeds and Manchester, plus a few more drinks last night out with my wife and friends for my birthday, it’s time to dry out and knuckle back down to some serious training again to regain the fitness levels which have abandoned my body in the past few days.

Understandably I was more than lethargic this morning with every rep a mammoth task, but things went ahead regardless…

Sunday 15/10/17

Pull-ups (underarm c/g):
4, 2
*I aim to get into the swing of these this week and rather than do the wide grip which relies more on work from the shoulders which is impossible at the moment, I’m going to start by pulling myself using the biceps more than anything else – always a strong point. The first four reps stalled about half way but the fifth saw my chin just about touch the bar, so lifting 16.5 stone just with the guns wasn’t too bad I don’t think.

Dips:
6, 6, 6
*Again, these went much better than last week’s introductory effort, going lower and being more steady in my execution with the legs not wavering so much. More reps (or sets, perhaps) next time.

DB press, 15° incline:
6x26
6x30
5x32

Bench press:
6x60
6x70
4x80

Bench push press, c/g (pushing up from just above the waist):
12x40
12x45
12x50
*Surprisingly strong with these today.

SUPERSET:
Tricep extensions / Standing E-Z bar curl:
30x40 / 12x28
26x40 / 15x28
22x40 / 14x28
24x40 / 16x28
18x40 / 11x28
16x50 / 12x33
*All sets to failure, adding a heavier set to finish.

Time: 45 mins.

Back at the gym tomorrow probably for some leg work.

Other stuff
I’m only posting in the journals section from now on. Too many lads on either an ego trip or a troll trip now in the General area. Won’t lose sleep over it lol!

Out with the missus for Sunday lunch now. Driving and work tonight, so can’t drink thank God!

Yep I'll keep the chins and dips in there each session. Should see some extra nanomillimetres of sinew added eventually lol.
Cheers buddy!☺
