Ive heard rumours of people having flu like symptoms after the jab, but I'm not sure if there's any truth in it

Yes, they are worth it, though its still possible to get a flu infection as its a guessing game for whats to come.

I get it as I'm in healthcare. I have done for 6 years now and never more than a sniffle every year since.

The flu vaccine is inactive so cannot give you the flu. What can happen I think is that you are briefly susceptible to flu like symptoms already in the air as your immune system is focused on creating flu antibodies.

Worth mentioning too that there is no guarantee with the vaccine you wont get the flu as it is the 3 most common strains from the previous year your getting immunized against. It can help make it less severe though, especially if you get it year on year.

I'm one of the priority from my Docs because I have asthma. My asthma however is extremely mild (used inhaler 4 times this year). I cannot remember ever having had full blown flu so I've never taken up the offer of the jab as I feel there are others in greater need!! (Always seems to end up a shortage). If you suffer regularly from flu it could be a good move for you. Try it, it may help. If it doesn't, you're no worse off!!

Its a myth mate .

One of the reasons it happens is after you have the jab it takes a couple of weeks to start working so people can get the flu or a cold and think it was the jab that gave them these symptoms.

The injection is made from Dead strains of the virus as far as ive read so does not give you flu.

I had it done couple of weeks ago for the sake of a tenner in Sainburys I always think may as well. Im always in the sauna or steam in the gym so can catch all sorts. I have the jab every year and Ive not had flu.

Interesting to see on the news yesterday as well someone getting bird flu the jab also protects against that too.

I'm of the view that if you're otherwise fit and healthy then such jabs are not necessary. However, I have had it in the past and I immediately came down with flu like symptoms that lasted nearly two weeks. I was so pissed of lol.

Never had it and don't recall ever having any flu either.

Every year big pharmaceutical companies try to push their vaccines for some new strain and scare everyone into buying them, it's ridiculous that people still fall for it.

Its a pre worked version of that they think the Flu is mutating to, so they essentially create a flu strain they expect to see in the following year, so you are in fact "flu ish" as your body fends off a tiny infection and so if you catch that flu, your body responds to it.

You will never say that if you have had it, many die every year from Flu.
I was hospitalised from having it, physically got out of bed on the first day and legs wouldnt work and smashed my head off my desk, then was put in for dehydration, and I was 28 at the time, and took about 4 months to get my energy back, also got Shingles on the back of that as my bodies defences where wiped out.
Theirs nothign to "fall" for, and its a very serious illness, and likly to be the next big " plague" with a 7 strain version of the flu comes along.

Arguments for and against, lots of people campaign against the jabs because of the Mercury content, link with autism etc etc.
If you are otherwise healthy then the chances of you dying from flu are probably less than you getting run over by a bus but you can get complications, 2 years ago I had flu which turned into a chest infection which ended up as pneumonia. It could be argued that a flu jab may have lessened the severity of my illness.

A GP will try and push one on you as they get paid for every jab, they even get paid to call the high risk groups to get them to take one as well.

Not worried in the slightest about dying from Flu but its more just that I am moving away to a ski resort and with having my own business i don't want to be laid up in bed feeling like I have been run over by a truck.

Booked in for it on Friday. Think she said it was £8 lol

Pros of jab: gives immunity to common strains of flu.
Pros of getting flu: none.
Cons of jab: costs the price of a pizza, not a guarantee you won't get flu.
Cons of getting flu: at least a week off work, possible death.

You do "the math".

Been in emergency medicine since 1998 have never taken the flu vaccine. I don't see the point as I am exposed to the live virus every year. Also a lot of the vaccines cover past strains and not the new mutated strains. I think it is good for old people or immunosuppressed individuals. I don't believe in taking vaccines unnecessarily.

Well, obviously, speaking as a medic, your opinion is gold, because, you know, no one ever does their job half-arsedly, ever. That's why no one ever catches infections from the fukcing staff when they're in hospital.Take the ****ing vaccines, why wouldn't you?

You might want to check that, as the Flu jab is a modified version of previous flu strain that protects against the known path ( or best researched guess) that the Flu in the future year will take.

I would also add that if you DO work with patients in the medical profession, you are an ass for not taking the jab to protect your patients, not yourself.

As an NHS worker I've had flu jabs every year for decades. I've never had flu and never anything but a slight ache in the shoulder.
