Forced sterilisation in the UK

A mother of six with learning difficulties is to be forcibly sterilised.

If the government just stooped supporting her it would be a lot worse for her, so its right imo

Instinctively I agree with it but then again I have always held some fairly strong views on who should and should not be able to reproduce.

This is a tough one. It is known that if she becomes pregnant again it will result in her death due to some condition she has. All children have been taken off her so is it better to sterilise or make her suffer having her children removed or as is now possibly the case, kill her by allowing it? Tough call, I'd hate to be the one to make the decision.

If the facts are as they appear to have been presented then I think it's a no brianer. However, the idea of the authorities forcing themselves into her home and forcibly sterilising her is a little third reich to say the least although I do not see how else they could do it.

Exactly!! Maybe it would be better to simply make her have the injections? Less invasive but obviously still an element of risk. Not sure if they have tried this though.

"Learning difficulties" is the current politically correct euphemism for "stupid"? Just to make sure.

Yes there's people out there who shouldn't be allowed to have kids. IMHO you should provide evidence you can provide for your children and give them a decent upbringing before you're allowed to have kids. It wouldn't be necessary if people weren't morons, smart people already do that with no laws forcing them to.

Unless she has proven to be a hazard (via action or inaction) to the six children, or society in general including herself, then absolutely wrong.

if the government didn't support her in the first place she probably wouldn't have had 6 kids , no one should be forcibly sterilised, she might win the lottery next week , but I think the welfare system and its failure have probably made things worse here .

I am pretty sure Cherrie Blair got pregnant at 45 and nobody was crying out for safety concerns enough to say she should be forcibly sterilised , slippery slope to eugenics.

I don't know enough of the facts to come to much more than a knee-jerk reaction.
So I won't.

why is it peoples right to over breed with no means of supporting their family?
its the reason we see women choose popping sprogs as a career choice rather than to raise a family.
the state should offer benefits for the 1st child but after that, you're on your own.

My parents said to be they worked out if they could afford to 'have' me when they were settling down.
These days its pop a sprog and run to the benefits office saying you have one more mouth to feed and gimme gimme gimme

Alot of scroats should be sterilised, or at least have to take a parenting test.

I agree.  She's a danger to herself.

Is she fat?

Sorry, that was awful.

Is she though?

I suspect her anonymity will remain protected. Why is her maybe being fat relevant?

Because we're a society that believes you have no right (outside of emergency medical procedures) to alter other peoples bodies without their consent.
