Formula 1

Ok so this season has been OK compared to the last 5 where MY MAN Schumacher has been coasting to the championships!

However, like all good things it has come to and end and the new 'kids' Kimi and Alonso are stealing the show!

Undoubtly Kimi would be leading the championship if he didn't drive a car that wasn't put together with chewing gum and a hope and a pray!

So all credit to Alonso and renault for being super fast and reliable!

However, what is the future of F1?? after USA GP things looked precarious to say the least! And with the new V8 arriving next year and a revisal of the technical regulation for 2008 will F1 return to the Glory days of Senna, Prost, Fangio, Stewart and the likes????

In September A1 racing Starts which is set to take over formula 3000, the step below F1, where all the cars are the same and it is down to driver skill to win the races.

What would you like to see in F1?
more driver skill??
more over taking??

I would like to see the return of gear shifting, no traction control, less aerodynamic regulations so there is more overtaking......i say bring back the high speeds, high danger more excitement we have the technology to make it safer for the driver if he crashes so lets see them push themselves and there cars to the limits! One way to do this is to make them receive race win money! then we will see driver battle to the bitter end!

ok people what are your thoughts?

So you want high speeds, high danger, but then say we have the technology to make it safer? You also realise that automatic gears, tractional control, and aerodynamics all makes the cars go faster, so why do you want them to disappear? Think you're a bit confused!

The FIA are already introducing steps to bring back more driver skill/over-taking etc. The problem is that the cars have been getting faster and faster every year, and the FIA tried to introduce measures to stop this happening, so that the speeds did not get ridiculously high, thats why we have grooved tyres and a whole host of other regulations - to slow the cars down. Unfortunately, this has happened, engineers being the clever sods they are have still made the cars go faster and faster every year, with the exception of this year where the speeds are slightly slower(about 1-2seconds a lap on some circuits). Now not only have these measures been unsuccesful in slowing the cars down, but they're also the reason why theres lots less overtaking these days - there is virtually no mechanical grip, only aerodynamic, so when cars get into the "dirty air" as its called of a car ahead of them, they basically experience turbulence which stops them getting very close - its why we see cars bomb it up to the back of another and then just stay there.

Now, the FIA has finally realised that things aren't working, so they're completely overhauling the sport in the next few years - for example, they're downsizing the engines from V12 to V8 for next season, and in 2008 they're bringing a whole host of new bodywork regulations designed to bring back overtaking and excitement to the sport! Hopefully it will work.

Also, giving drivers bigger race bonuses is not "one way" to make things more exciting!

traction control and automatic gear detract from driver skill!

i agree with what your saying, what i was trying to say was let lost in passion TBH

MAX is an arse and has lost the respect from teams and fans! get the teams to be owners of the sport like wee bernie wants them to be! because the teams know best! the teams know what will and will not work to make the racing more exciting, they can sit down together and discuss regulations to improve the sport! they are the ones with the latest technology so they know what aerodynamic packages will increase overtaking, weather v8 are suitable, bringing back slicks and tyre changes etc.

what max and the fia does is stand on their soap boxes and preach that they know best! HOW?? they don't have access to what goes on behind the scence of ferraris, mclaren william etc Research and Development factory so how do they know what new technology the teams have come up with? all they rely on is the teams telling them what they think best and max disregarding the suggestions to see what he thinks is best for the fia and it's sponsors pockets! they don't give a stuff about the fans these days!

Get the Teams to be owners then we will see proper changes happen!

I think you're forgetting that trying to get 10 teams to agree on something without a governing body would be almost impossible, especially with the budgets and competitiveness invovled. Sometimes things just need to be imposed, and Max/FIA do listen to the teams. Infact the new regulations they're bringing in are the teams ideas.

It gets a bit ridiculous in the end though, when max asked teams to come up with cost-cutting measures due to spiralling costs(we've lost 3 teams in the past 5 seasons due to increased costs) they came up with almost nothing, at which point you have to just do what you think is best. Given the job that max has to do I think he does it very well.

Max only listens to one team Ferrari, besides it really isnt long now before all the teams leave Max.

And lets not forget that Max is the one who has put price UP just to hold races and for the teams. Thats what started the argument was the fact that he was getting richer when the teams where suffereing, none of the fans like him, no one actually wants him in the sport.

F1 was about making the fastest possible cars on a track, to be the best in the world, and that meant developing technolgies that made them go faster. Its since been ruined by Max and his team.
